Antman was atrocious (spoilers)

Written from my phone so expect errors.
I wanted to like this movie. I drove like mad to make it to the 4:30 show.
I don't know how this movie has gotten good critic and fan reviews. Most of the movie, I could t quite decide if the movie was ok, bad, or atrocious and I've finally decided on atrocious.
But first, the good.
I liked Michael Douglas. There were two or three action scenes I liked. The suits looked really cool. I really liked the heist scene of breaking into Pym's house. I'd have loved to see more scenes like that. I chuckled once.
But man, from the first scene, I was frowning with how the movie was portrayed. Clunky exposition repeatedly. The jokes for Rudd were written well, but terrible in execution. Most of the other humor was just flat out insulting. The 3 sidekick thieves are Michael Bay level insulting. The worst joke in the entire movie might have been the joke about the ant looking like a dog.
The CGI was really really really bad for the most part. The ants looked exceptionally bad. Watching the groups of ants moving around was just an eyesore. I did like the shrinking and growing effects though.
Stoll was awful as Cross. Just really couldn't believe what I was seeing. He's just such a caricature and they keep on trying to give him depth but it all comes across as flat or fake. Then they throw in the line with 20 minutes left in the movie that its the chemical exposures that are making him crazy. WTF.
There's no tension in this movie at all. A movie needs some tension no matter what it is otherwise, what do we care what happens
The drama between the father and daughter Pym was cheesy and boring and felt like filler.
I'm just scratching the surface. Very disappointed

I'm surprised this thread wasn't started by Carson....
I haven't seen the movie yet but the last couple of Marvel movies have felt like that for me. Like nothing was at stake and Marvel was just like "hey it's a superhero on screen that will be in Avengers...just enjoy it."
At least Winter Solider and GoG there were risks and things at stake, but Age of Ultron and probably Ant-man....no tension, nothing at stake, just a regular ole action flick

If you didn't laugh at the giant toy train engine, there may not be a proctologist alive skilled enough to remove the stick from your arse.

I just saw your title but figure I should just say "DC fanboy". It's obligatory...

i was expecting a lot more of the plot to tie into the avengers story line just like thor and guardians. the thor movies arent necessarily the best but the avengers story line is set up so much by the thor movies. this movie seemed a unnecessary, but i did enjoy it.

If I remember correctly, you didn't like GotG either. I'm not surprised that you didn't like this one.

I enjoyed it for what it it was, a fun heist film. Rudd was great.

I thought Ant-Man was pretty solid...4/5 for me.

Man, i gotta disagree with just about everything you said. I enjoyed it. I dont see it winning any awards or anything, but enjoyable nonetheless. I think your a lil bit too critical of these superhero movies. Evangeline lilly becoming the wasp was tight at the end btw. She

I don't get the hate. My family and I really enjoyed it. We'll probably see it again in theaters.
Look, Marvel has done several origin stories with mixed results. This movie had the added difficulty of being a quasi-origin story of a super hero that relies on a type of tech that requires a fair amount of exposition just to be understood by the audience. Much like Captain America, I predict a strong shelf life on future Ant Man appearances after an opening act that had it's challenges.
Think about it. Which Marvel Origin stories were executed flawlessly?
Iron Man? Check.
Captain America? Nope. Weak villian.
Thor? Nope. Thor's origin story was saved by the fact that it was also Loki's Origin story.
Hulk? Please.
Ant-Man did the job it was supposed to do. It gave us a highly entertaining movie experience that establishes our hero and showed glimpses of the potential impact our hero can have in the established universe. (It also manages to function as Wasp's Origin as well, which could turn out to be huge for the MCU).

I liked it. It was better than the first Thor and Captain America. Best character intro movie Marvel has made in a while.
Who cares what the ants look like? Jeeze, you are too picky. It is just a movie.
But Still was awful. Terrible casting choice.

It was entertaining. I had low expectations, but did enjoy the movie.
