This deposit is just for the chance to get in, paying to get on the waiting list

No. Not at all.
Maybe for a highly in demand Montessori school, or something similar, but I've personally never encountered one with my 2 kids.

I believe I paid $200/kid deposit at an in demand daycare in BR.

I've seen a few like that. Those are the really high demand ones.
The one I know of is $250. Its fricking ridiculous.

If you want your kids to play with toys that have only been in the mouths of 50 kids and not a 1,000, you better pay up.

First thing I said. My wife was like, really? It's going to cost you over 9 grand a year, and you're mad about the $200. She kind of had a point. I was already getting taken behind the wood shed so what's an extra $200.

That's not why, Teddy. I was mainly interested in him getting his prime years of education from the hottest day care instructors I could find.

A universal truth. The more money that is involved, the hotter the women are.

I've had to pay a deposit to get on a waiting list, but if the kid didn't get in, then I could get it back. If the kid did get in, I then had to prepay I think two weeks tuition, and the deposit basically became the registration fee.
Sounds like what you have is more of an application fee. Schools charge non-refundable application fees all the time.

Yes, if I remember correctly, I paid $200 for a deposit to be on a waiting list. If we got accepted, our $200 deposit was applied to our application fee.

Yeah apparently we paid 150 just to get on list... Second place requiring a waiting list fee

It doesn't get any cheaper as they get older, enjoy it while you can...

If there is high demand, yes

We paid $125 in Baton Rouge. However after a year of use they give us a free week of care.

I hear people say this occasionally, and I don't get it.
If they go to public school, it certainly does . They'd need a lot of crap to surpass $9k/year in daycare expenses alone.
My 7/8 year old isn't playing travel baseball.
"sorry bud, dad thinks it's stupid to spend 4 grand a year driving you around the south to baseball parks when you just learned to tie your shoes, so go play in the sand".
Sure, when they drive and go to college it's going to get significantly more expensive, but that's what savings plans are for.

9k a year? Damn. I'm spending 24k a year on just a normal daycare. Not a monestorri or elite private school. 5 months and and definitely don't have the hot botches working. My a-hole hurts from grabbing my ankles.

Dang.
So DC, San Francisco, NYC?
