Since you're on the OB board and mentioned outdoor things:

Lake Ouachita is probably the prettiest of the lakes around there. It's gorgeous. Boating is great on it, and there are scenic drives through the area of the Ouachita National Forest (Scenic Hwy 7 is pretty good). There's a 36 miles trail (Lake Ouchita Vista Trail) around it. Plenty of trailheads to jump on and off of it, I believe.

If you're into mountain biking, the Womble trail is pretty famous and named an "epic" ride by IMBA.

If you want to fish a cool little stream, the Little Missouri out of Lake Greeson (which is also really pretty) is pretty awesome. It's just under an hour away (Crater of Diamonds state park is also in that area, if you want to dig for diamonds, which I don't recommend, but some people like it).

The Garven Woodland Gardens are really nice botanical gardens in the area.

Cedar Glades park is has trails through a cedar forest.

Lake Degray is also really pretty.

I second lake ouachita. A beautiful lake with great scenery. Lake Catherine is a nice state park too. We never really found any great eats.

x2 on Garvan. And if you don't have a place to stay locked down, check out Lookout Point Inn. Great B&B I've stayed at multiple times.
