That's a fair price with labor for a 16 SEER Carrier.

I just bought a 3 ton Goodman 13 SEER unit for a job and it was $1297 with my discount. Add labor and the quality difference in there and it's not far off at all.

Just got a 2nd estimate. $4500 with an additional air inflow being installed and a Lennox system. Probably going to go with the lower estimate because they seemed like a better company and had great reviews.

And where is this big leak? If the unit is only 8 years old it may be worth replacing the coil or whatever is leaking vs doing a swap out.

And it may not be the coil. I had someone come out due to a cooling problem and tell me it was the coil and it would cost $700 to replace (coil is still under warranty).

He comes out again and finds out it wasn't the coil but a line feeding the coil, which could be fixed and would only be $450.

Nice to pocket the savings and spend some of it on getting my chimney cleaned out for the first time since I bought the house many years ago.
