I'd have less money, and more expenses. So no.

XLE/limited highlander for wife, 39-45k MSRP for wife.

Suburu WRX STI 40k~

That's what I would do.

Highlander is in a different class for feel/looks/reliability/cost for the money, and a STI has amazing control without having to buy him something unsafe with 400hp+.

The new mustangs are nice, stay away from camaros/chargers as they are pieces of shite and death traps. (The mustang is a slightly nicer, faster death trap but nonetheless).

Sooo, you're obviously illiterate or delusional.

I don't get the tarp joke. You got something against mobile pools? And no, I go on the lake or the river.

As far as being jealous of you goes, let's clear that up.

What's your note on that vette?
What's your interest rate?
How many years did you finance it?

I'll go first.

0.00 for all 3.

Also, zero credit card debt, no sketchy marriage, and no love of amphibians.

#winning

Your turn.

...and you bench 300 and run a 4.3 40 too, I bet.
If you walk into a room of dentists or physicians and ask the same question in my OP, no one blinks an eye and you get straight up answers and suggestions. If you do it here, everyone has a cow - because the OT is full of poor, jealous college students - not OT ballers.

Even if I were poor, which I'm not, I wouldn't trade places with a cripple.

Why are you proud of this? What's your preoccupation with hoarding money? You must live a miserable life if you're afraid of spending your money. I do not understand the mentality of revering money and living in fear of it. The interest rate is minuscule - around 1.9%. Insignificant. I pay the bills and notes on everything I have and still have more left over than most people make at the end of each month. And I'm enjoying my life to the fullest. Always have. I've always had expensive hobbies, such as motocross and road racing. Your money is useless to you when you are dead, and anyone with the slightest bit of common sense will carry enough life insurance to take care of their family. I can't imagine how miserable most of you must be living in fear of spending your money.

I don't recall saying that it was special. But it is certainly enough to live pretty damn well on - if you spend it, that is. :double bird: And around 97% of wage earners in this country would be happy to make it.

Two ways of transportation?

Charger RT and a Harley Davidson Breakout. I'd have about $40,000 left over in which I could put into upgrading each ride.

And still probably have about $10,000 left over after I was done.

Yeah, because nothing says "I'm living life" like no money in the bank and a load of debt.

You'll end up like the rest of the people that live like they're aggin hcir.

Having bills does not put someone in debt. I have far more assets than liabilities.

He was making $300/day teaching seminars and $50/hr. for private lessons at age 14 because he put in the work to reach that point.

So why isn't he buying his own car and paying for it himself? He'll appreciate it more and be more careful with it (and his life) than if you buy it for him.

For the wife, get her a Highlander, or ever better, an Odyssey or Sienna. If you're insistent on buying your son a new car then get him a Toyobaru.

300hp and FWD is not a match made in heaven.

When I was in high school I badly wanted a Maxima. A 97-99 SE with stick, sunroof, and that glorious 3.0 liter motor that if I remember correctly had 190hp. Wound up getting a 1995 4-cylinder Camry with 150k miles on it instead because it was what I could afford at the time.

After the first lay-off in the oilfield, I became more responsible with my money. The second lay-off has been a lot easier because I don't have massive debt and I have some cash in the bank to wait it out. I worked with a lot of contact drilling foreman that made a lot more than I did but didn't have a pot to piss in much less the preverbal window. These guys had 6 cars and rented their homes. It made no sense. One guy bought a F250 King Ranch and spent another 20K tricking it out and this was his work truck. I'm not saying that it is bad to have nice cars. It isn't and I've had my share but my first car was a 78 LTD. Nothing fancy, unless you consider the 8 track and naugahyde, but I paid for it and it made me appreciate when I could afford a 67 Mustang paid with my own cash.

If you feel like you have to go down that road, what you are teaching your son is not the merits of working hard equals good cars. It is that my car equals my worth as a person and my dad will buy me a 40k car. It would be much better to find him an Accord that he can work on and tune. There is nothing more satisfying and educational than having looked at a project completed and said I did that.

If you must, I would go for a Honda Pilot w/ third row seating for wife. My buddy got one and he really likes it. I'm not much of a SUV guy unless it is a Bronco. One of the cars I regret selling and a Alfa Romero roadster for the son. If he wraps himself around a pole it is best done in an Italian car.
