What are y’all swinging for bluegill? I’ve got a few rods but they’re all geared towards saltwater in 8 and 9 weights.
Thinking medium action 8’6” 5 weight or is that overkill?

5wt would be fine in case you a-hole into a decent sized bass or something.
If you want to live on the edge and probably have more fun, something like a 3wt butterstick would be killer.
Note that I do have a blast catching small bream with my 5wt though.

I have a 2wt that I absolutely adore when it comes to fishing for bream. If I happen to snag a bass on it (even an small one) it ends up being one heck of a fight.
I use a 3wt a lot as well.
