I have a belt type/fanny pack bag that I use for fresh water. I learned that having a vest on tended to bother my back at the end of a long day fishing. The pack I have doesn't bother me at all.
Holds 2 big waterproof fly boxes and all my other stuff.

I fish mostly bass, brim, sac au lait from my boat so no trouble. I have gone after trout a few times but other than the scenery and fun fishing a stream didn't like it much the fish dont taste good. Me and my boat with a tackle box and a big fly box are happy and I only hang a big set of clippers around my neck
