If Simmons plays well but not the All-American type level (say All-SEC 1st team) and LSU again doesn't get past the 1st round, will people view him as a player who didn't live up to the hype?
I don't think people viewed shaq and jackson as "not living up to the hype" because they never had that big run.
LSU is anywhere from a round of 32 team to epic run, depending on how the post players develop. I like our chances with Pinkins and Treloar helping the baws down low

Odds are he probably averages something like 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Blackeny, 18 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists.

You don't understand college basketball
You're correct. Changed the numbers to more accurately reflect the college game.

Both played before the Internet blew up and before hype machines. They did not receive the type of hype that Simmons has currently.

I'm interested in seeing the 30s shot clocks impact on the game

If he doesn't then this would of been the most over hyped college player of all time by the media attention that this kid had received already.

Honestly, I don't think Simmons has to play at an AA level. If he does and gets honored then great for him. He's an excellent player and sometimes guys struggle early, which I hope isn't true for anyone this year. Instead of him getting AA I'd rather him just get All-SEC and have the team make a Sweet 16 or Elite 8. We have a quality backcourt surrounding him and hopefully Victor will come in strong to help the young front court. Mainly j just want the team to do well, but a great season for Simmons that would ensure him a lottery pick would be fantastic too.

It will definitely help the Tigers

Good points tduecen. My prediction after watching him outperform everyone who stepped on the court with him the past couple of years is that he will be the National Freshman AA of the year, 1st team All SEC and at least a 2nd team AA on most teams chosen. The potential is certainly there to be a consensus 1st teamer but I'll stop short of making that call. The truth is he would have likely led LSU to a couple of tourney wins last season playing with the gone forwards. Barring some unforeseen misfortune, Ben will spend only one season playing for the Tigers.

I will be more concerned with how the team plays than the individuals, but I expect Simmons will be the best player on the court in the far majority of the games.

A lot of people believe he is a 1 and done player for LSU
Barring injury, this is a guarantee. He would be top 5 this year out of HS.

Yes, that will be a let down. But I will still cheer for the kid.

May mean LSU gets him for 2 years as well, which could be great.
Again, barring injury, it just isn't happening. He is a 6'9"/10" ambidextrous Point-Forward who can legitimately play 4 positions on the court. He is going to be very, very rich one day.
