Second guess?? Maybe you should go read the in game thread.
Players should be held accountable IN the locker room until they are paid for the sport. Plain and simple. The person that they rely on to lead them and the person that makes huge amounts of money off their ability to perform should not be talking to the media and placing blame on them individually. Its OK to say "We didn't hit well today" Its NOT OK to say "Player X stunk it up at the plate today"

This game was all on CPM. His piss poor management of pitchers is getting really old.

Yup all the critics on TD would be amazing coaches if they got to see the result before making a decision.
Two things can possibly happen when a baseball coach makes a decision
1) It doesn't work out and everyone is critical of the coach for putting a player in that position.
2) It works out but but no one gives the coach credit it all goes on the player for getting out of a situation.
Now going back to the subject of the thread. Yes, I have always dis liked Maineri for throwing his players under the bus to the media.

Sad but true...Fundamental Attribution Error - basically attribute success to yourself and failure to others...actually kind of healthy
quote:
In social psychology, the fundamental attribution error, also known as the correspondence bias or attribution effect, is the tendency for people to place an undue emphasis on internal characteristics (personality) to explain someone else's behavior in a given situation rather than considering the situation's external factors. It does not explain interpretations of one's own behavior, where situational factors are more easily recognized and can thus be taken into consideration. Conversely, from the other perspective, this error is known as the actor–observer bias, in which people tend to overemphasize the role of a situation in their behaviors and underemphasize the role of their own personalities.

I personally thought pulling Person when he did was a mistake. He left him in to face the guy with the bases full and he struck the guy out, THEN you pull him?
Pull him before that, or let him pitch after a strikeout. To me, that next pitch which was a 2 rbi hit, was predictable. OF COURSE the next guy is going to grove one. TCU was waiting on that anxiously.
Oh, and how about someone go talk to person before he throws 3 in the dirt. fricking tell him to quit junking curves and throw a fball at one of the corners!

This is stupid..
1) Person on the mound walking people cant find the strike zone. In Game thread is going nuts on why there is no action in the pen. THEN we load the bases up and CPM sends people to the pen.
2) In game thread.. Newman is pitching tight curve balls LSU ties the game. THEN he is pulled for BAIN. Everyone in the thread asking WHY? Then Bain stuggles for an inning.. Comes out for the next inning.. Many posters saying WHY! Then Bain screwed up.
3) Reports that Godfrey is in the pen warming up.. At least 10 posts are made questioning WHY.. The umpires strike zone is way too small. THEN Godfrey is put in.
4) Godfrey is pulled for Duvall who shuts the inning down. Many posters in jest claim that he wont be back next inning which is true.
5) Norman pulls off an amazing inning. LSU is down by 3 but we may have found our pitcher. Many jokes are made in jest that Mainieri will pull him.. Ell jokes that he will replace him with Stallings.. Laughter ensued..
6) Son of a bitch.. he replaced Norman with Stallings.. Who gives up 2 more runs..
Yes all of this is the result of being able to see the result before making the decision.
feel free to read the in game thread.

quote:I agree with you. The TCU coach did the same thing in his interview if you noticed. (not that it matters really).
Even in the interview between innings, he blasted Foster and Person

Unfortunately, this college world series backed up what I have thought all along--PM is a lousy game manager, and it was magnified on this stage. Poor pitching choices, etc.
But regardless on how bad he is, (gamewise and personally)--if you don't hit, you can't win.

So, honest question, when do players get held accountable for their play on the field?
In the locker room after the game.
NOT in public.
Every good manager knows that when his team has success, he credits the team, when the team fails, he takes personal responsibility. To do otherwise comes off as petty.

The 3 in the dirt was by design. It is much easier to strike a guy out by making him swing at something unhittable rather than hoping you can paint a corner with a fastball which a lot of times with an avg pitchers catch way to much of the plate.
I agreed with the first two curves in the dirt, but with the count now at 2-2 and a batter who obviously seeing the curve really well I didn't agree with throwing a third in the dirt.

How can you ask this question when last Sunday provided you the answer?

The Johnny Wholestaff is the problem. This coaching staff had all year to produce a 3rd or even a 4th starter, but assed around and didn't do it. Then PM is going to assume that everyone's stupid and going to go into the CWS with really 2 starters. Yea, use Latz as the excuse. A fish rots from the head first.

Norman was the filthiest pitcher in the game. He should have started another inning.

I wouldn't want Paul Manieri giving my eulogy
Posted on 6/19/15 at 12:18 pm to easy money
He had good command and movement on his fastball, they were off balance and everyone outside of PM recognized it.

Wait.. Are you a woman that is offended that someone compared CPM to you? Or are you offended because someone said that about CPM?

These are not "Kids" in the realm of sport by any means, they are young men and should be treated as such. They have been competitive athletes their entire lives and can accept criticism better than our fans can.
