The biggest problem I see with it is there are more non natives there now and they are trying to make the place like where they ran away from

They get drawn in to Austin by its weirdness, Culture, music, and jobs. However, like you said they try to change it to where they ran away from.

Fort Worth is the market you are looking for

Good to know, if I was moving to the metroplex I would probably lean more Fort Worth anyway. Plenty to to do, lots of restaurants, less 30 k millionaires then Dallas proper I guess. And from what little I know decent golf courses.

Fort Worth has branded itself as the last true Texas Large city. Some of the true Austinites that I know or either moving to Denver, parts of the Hill Country or Fort Worth.

That's just it - it's not weird. frick, Baton Rouge is weirder than Austin!

The music scene is declining, but the food scene is skyrocketing.

SXSW is in a strange place right now, but ACL is thriving.

The North and East sides of town are booming, while the South and West parts of town are staying relatively the same.

The city is finding itself, but it might have to give-up some parts to do it. I really hope they can figure out how not to let the music scene die.

I'm off Lower Greenville in the M Streets area (Mideast Dallas) and its starting to get a little ridiculous w/what people are paying.

I'm in the same area. A big part of the price jump is the shortage of in town houses for sale. Most people that are here don't want to sell and so there are bidding wars over the stuff that does come on the market. I'm glad I bought 15 years ago. I couldn't afford to buy here now.

Fort Worth is probably legit in that claim though. Certainly feels like the last true Texas city of any size to me.

I have flown into DFW at night, but I can't remember the type of aircraft. Is that important?

Yep you got that right.

Music scene is still pretty good imo for emerging bands, and the Austin 360 Amphitheater has helped draw in bigger names.

Yep. SXSW has grown beyond what the sole intention of why it was created in 1987. Now the off the trail free showcases is where its it. its major showcase mix is 33% hip hop. The interactive sessions are way too Who's Who but the Movie segment of SXSW is still awesome.

Loving the food now, though. I mean, 12-15 years ago there wasn't shite here except for an arse-load of Mexican and a couple of decent steak houses. We have all kinds of great food now!

"an arse-load of Mexican"

No pun intended...

I live in the metroplex and don't get the attraction, seriously thinking about pulling up stakes and splitting

Pretty much all the benefits of Dallas minus all the Yuppies. You're more likely to find the Average Joe in FW and by itself it's only a hair smaller than Austin.
