I've been eating sushi (sashimi) since the early 1980's. Got introduced by my dad who had to entertain Japanese business executives when they bought out Kentwood Spring Water around this same time. Shogun on Vets (Metry) was our go to place.

Moved to Laffy in 1987 and they had ZERO sushi restaurants. I would drive once a week to Baton Rouge and eat at the old KOTO of Japan of College Drive where Tam was the sushi chef. Tam left BR in the mid 90's and opened Samurai in Lafayette, one of the first sushi restaurants in town.

Samurai is solid but I believe Oishi is better ... only negative is the loooooong wait and very limited seating. One chef Mr. Chen and one waitress, his wife. I've waited as long as 45 min for lunch and 1:15 hrs for dinner. I now call ahead and order to go. My office is 2 blocks from Oishi which is convenient but still a PIA because of the wait

If in a hurry, I do Samurai in Broussard and sit at the bar. Uni with a quail egg on top is probably my favorite but not always available. IMO, Samurai Broussard > Lafayette.

Never been a fan of Tsunami, reminds me of LaFonda where most of the people are there to be seen and act like they're in a higher tax bracket.
