Ehhhh, you could just make a large batch of ranch and serve it in ramekins instead of the individual sized ones. The costs would be minimal and you could probably up your food costs by 50 cents and cover it without much fuss. I'd say it's less noticeable to pay $9.50 for a meal, then to pay $9 and then see an additional $0.50 on the ticket to cover your dipping sauce. It's one of the reasons I don't get soft drinks at restaurants anymore. I can swing the $2, but I know that drink costs the place a nickel and seeing that $2 brings out a jew-rage in me

I worked at two restaurants. One gave it away, the other charged for everything. I don't remember having to serve tons more at the restaurant that gave it away for free. And I wouldn't say the place selling it made a killing off of it.

You nailed it: everyone knows that a bottle of dressing / sauce doesn't cost $40 which is what it would be if each small amount cup were valued at the restaurant price.

I agree. But I prefer water anyway.
