What you're failing to remember, PhilTiger, is that Conley was banged up. More importantly, however, Tony Allen got hurt, and subsequently crippled the otherwise "stout" Memphis defense.

Do you have numbers to back this up? The point remains that it is Cleveland's gameplan that took GS out of their status quo normalities of good offense (I say good because they haven't been that "great" in the playoffs, they have the #5 offense and take the most 3s). If you throw off someone's shot while contesting them and throwing looks at them that they aren't use to, it will surely effect the uncontested shots.

I know they were 12-39 on shots where there was no defender within 3.5 feet after Game 2. Have no idea what the numbers were in Game 3.

and jr smith and shump have not did a thing. If one or both of them get hot... watch out

I agree.
If the Cavs win tonight, while the may not close it out in 5, it's hard to see that they won't be able to summon enough emotion and energy to win in 6.
Lose tonight, and despite all the heart, effort and energy Cleveland has shown, you're still back to square one with the better team having the home court advantage the rest of the way.
Even before the Irving injury I thought GS would win in 5. It's been fun to watch just how hard Cleveland is playing

really stepping out on a ledge with this analysis

This is partially true and they deserve a lot of credit for what they have done defensively throughout the playoffs. You can't ignore the fact that GS has been missing an inordinate number of uncontested shots though.
When you don't even guard a guy (Iggy, Barnes, and Dray) while they shoot threes, it gets into their head, and they haven't been able to shake off their rattled confidence.

So it's impossible for Cleveland to lose by 20+ despite all of that relevant points I just made?
not impossible but saying something will happen to Cleveland because of Memphis is dumb

No no, it's because GS magically forgot how to shoot a basketball. The monstars stole their powers, it has nothing to do with Cleveland

Player Name/Regular Season PPG/Playoff PPG/Finals PPG/PPG differential for Finals vs Playoffs
Barnes: 10.1 / 10.7 / 7.3 / -3.4
Green: 11.7 / 13.3 / 9.7 / -3.6
Bogut: 6.3 / 4.9 / 3.3 / -1.6
Shumpert: 8.0 / 9.3 / 5.3 / -4.0
Smith: 12.1 / 12.9 / 10.7 / -2.2
I'd say it's a wash.
Barnes: 10.1 / 10.7 / 7.3 / -3.4

quote:This is just dumb. The Cleveland team in the Finals isn't the Cleveland team from the 14-15 season. The roster is completely different. You had mid-season additions of Iman, JR, and Mozgov. Plus injuries to Love and Kyrie. It's silly to point at regular season performance. This is an elite defensive team. Maybe they aren't better than Memphis, but they're right there with them.
Also, virtually every team defensive statistic points to Memphis being a better defensive team than Cleveland during the 14-15 season.

exactly. What a crazy thought from the OP.
It's much more important to Golden State IMO. If they lose tonight, it's over. If the Cavs lose, it will be tough, but they've still got a shot.

i agree, this was my point though. The talk earlier in the thread was that barnes and green have done nothing. I was just stating thay jr and shump have been bad also. And if they get hot it would be dangerous.

pressure is still on golden state.. they know they have to win 2 games in cleveland now. The cavs know they dont have to win in golden state again.

I agree. The Cavs have to win tonight. I hope they're ready.

GS technically doesn't have to win 2 in CLE, but I like many others don't think LBJ will lose 3 in a row if he's up 3-1.
