I had just watched the documentary today as well.
On one side, I see a great coach who did so much for a university and the pretty gutwrenching downfall.
On the other side I see multiple people who had direct knowledge of this happening and did the very bare mininum of reporting to the corrrect people to put a stop to it. which led to a decabe more of abuse. I also saw a seriously crazy fanbase.
In the end, the pain of the university, fanbase and coaching staff do not outweigh the lives that are ruined by the trauma endured on PSU's campus by a football coach. All of which could have been stopped had Petrino and the other administration done more. Punishment iss deserved and shutting down the football program would not have been too harsh either.

Paterno did what he was expected to do. He reported it. Did he do enough? That's a moral judgement you have to make.
Sandusky was tenured, Paterno had no control who had access. It's like that at every school, tenured pos get access someplace they shouldn't. Remember a university is a public place.
The NCAA went too far, they knew it. Their job is to regulate athletics and academics. Not be administering penalties for crimes.
Baylor wasn't punished for teammates killing each other. They were punished for scholarship violations. UK wasn't punished for mail fraud, but for sending money to a recruit and taking tests for recruits.
