OLOL Hospital Level of Care

Recently I had a close relative have a severe injury that required ER treatment and emergency surgery and as always we took her to OLOL. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness in the ER treatment room, lots of dust on cabinets and even on medical equipment, just had that "nobody gives a shite look". The surgery went well, so the doctor there did his job well, but the aftercare has been abysmal.
IV's not hooked up to the patient, lost patient chart, blood taken but the tests not run, 'not my job' attitude, on and on. If there is not a relative or friend present checking to make sure the medication is given on time, and it is the right medication, it doesn't happen.
Is this typical of all hospitals? Is the BR General better? I have decided that the next time we need ER or surgery we will go the BRG. I think OLOL has expanded to the point that they can't run it anymore.
IV's not hooked up to the patient, lost patient chart, blood taken but the tests not run, 'not my job' attitude, on and on. If there is not a relative or friend present checking to make sure the medication is given on time, and it is the right medication, it doesn't happen.

The lake is just awful. Coming from someone who had surgery and after care there. Go to Oschner in NOLA.
They healed in 1 month what OLOL couldn't in over a year.
I haven't been in the last year or so, but evidently it's gotten even worse since BR General Mid city and EKL closed

My grandparents and several other family members are quite elderly. They're basically experts on the level of care at OLOL. They all are bitching lately about how it's going down hill so I guess yes is the answer.
I know if you ask one of those nurses for something that they don't have right on hand you better be ready to ask 10 fricking times based on personal experience.

Also true. I wasn't given correct medication during and after surgery. It led to me vomiting non-stop for hours and nearly dehydrating. Also when they inabated me for surgery, they raked the side of my trachea and vocal cords and I couldn't talk or swallow for days after. They can rot in hell.

I don't care if it's Johns Hopkins or the Mayo Clinic, you had better have someone staying in the room with the patient if at all possible, especially if they're not capable of advocating for themselves.

Having worked in several of the major hospitals in the BR area there is no clear cut winner...at least this was the case in the mid-2000's.

BR hospitals are pretty bad. Of course, If I graduated in the top half of my med-school class, I wouldn't go work in Louisiana either. So BR gets the University of Barbados and University of Phoenix online Dr's.
If you're not immediately needing help, I'd go to Houston and pay whatever insurance wont cover out of pocket. You'll probably still save money considering they will get it right the first time.

Make sure you note this is OLOL in Baton Rouge.
I've had a personal experience with OLOL in Lafayette recently, and it is/was a fantastic facility.

Something to keep in mind is BR General mid city closed recently so OLOL has been getting hammered. Not saying that's the root cause. Just something to think about

OLOL is BR's charity hospital now. Nice facilities but awful atmosphere. It got pretty bad when EKL closed and now worse when the ER at BRG-MC closed.

I had emergency surgery there a month ago and will never go back. Had I not been in terrible pain and morphine I would've asked the ambulance to take me to the General.

BR General is head and shoulders better. I know this because I spent 15 days in the BR General in December. My grandfather went into OLOL January 2014 and died a week later. They listed the cause of death ad sepsis. His IV would run out and beep for hours before a nurse came in (despite numerous calls by us to come change it).
I will never go to OLOL. The BR General is much better. They have real RN nurses and doctors that will come see you when you call.

My husband was transferred there (against my wishes) after surgery at another facility. Went in on Saturday and passed away on Monday. Took him for a MRI.
