Soviet deaths isn't that surprising to me. Their military was absolutely terrible from a leadership perspective after Stalins' early purges in the 1930s. They were the epitome of quantity over quality. Had Germany and Japan not gotten America involved, they would have completely kicked the USSR's arse.

Thanks, that was great.

Does the Soviet count include those killed by the regime itself?

Not sure on soldiers but they did include civilians killed by their own government.

Pretty interesting video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.
The D-Day/WWII Museum has (or had) a movie that included similar bar graph comparisons. It was shocking to see the amount of Soviet dead, relative to US and British deaths.

At the beginning of the war, not at the end. They weren't prepared after civil war, purges, and pact with Germany/Stalin being stubborn and not listening to his spies and German defectors telling him Germany was planning invasion..
By the end of war they were beating the Germans, at their own game, with what they had learned fighting the Nazi's.. and came out of the war unanimously considered to have the best army in the world, despite having lost what they had, and America still being strong with their small amount of casualties.

I have much respect for them but I wonder if they feel cheated or pissed off for giving their life for what this country has become.
