The draft is about building value...not about replacing players on your ML roster. I think even lunhow has said recently they want to create more value which means high upside players.

If they truly are taking two bats I would hope they take one prep and one college guy like has been suggested. If they take Rogers at 2, take someone like Benintendi at 5 (and probably sign him under slot). There are enough polished college bats in this draft though that they should end up with one of them

I'm good with that. I like benetendi

If that happens, I bet it means Phillips and/or Fisher is used in a significant trade. Which I wouldn't mind, if they really like #BennyBaseball.

Astros miss Sale and Samardzija, so that's a benefit.
Astros seem to have a bevy of B/B+ prospects that they can package to get a good pitcher if they need one.

We have been terrible against lefties. Hopefully we take pitches and get rodon out early

You're forgetting the intentional strikeout

Even Altuve needs to THINK tonight and take some pitches. Rodon will pitch himself out of a game early if you let him.

Swanson is probably on top of everyone's big board including us. If the DBacks go elsewhere its because they cut a deal with someone. All the guys yall are talking about have been linked to us but I'm wondering why Tate isn't being talked about at 1.5?

I like Tate a lot. The fact that this is his first year as a starter is both intriguing and a little scary to me.

Speaking of Appel I listend to the CC hooks game last night to get a sense of what's wrong with appel and what I got from listening to the commentators is his biggest problem now is really his control and command. Something that was his strong suit coming out of college. I know that's obvious looking at his BB rate but he also gets in a lot of hitters counts and leaves the ball over the middle of the plate too much. He throws his change up more than his slider which surprised me since he was supposed to have a above average slider. He didn't pitch as bad as the stats show because he gave up about 3-4 infield singles that the infielder just couldn't get to fast enough which is good because that means he didn't get hit hard. He didn't give up 1 extra base hit which is really positive and he even got out of a bases loaded no outs jam without giving up any runs.
After listening to the game I have a little bit more confidence in him and I think once he reaches the bigs and gets a little better coaching he will fix some of his control problems and be able to pitch well in the back end of our rotation. That's not what we hoped when he was drafted but it's better than what most are expecting.

We have a system stacked with solid players.
This may be a misconception on my part, but I don't think the system is as stacked up the middle as it is in other places.

I'm on the Tate bandwagon. I really love the kind of athlete he is. He has at least three offerings that appear to be plus. I have faith in him staying healthy more than Fulmer.
I dunno, but Luhnow saw Tate's shakiest start of the year versus CS-Fullerton (and probably fell in love with their ace Eshelman in the process). If Jeff liked Tate at his worst, he probably wants to pick him.

We really have a good middle is kemp, Fontana and Puerto Rican Jesus. That's pretty good but it's not a ton of depth.

Right, I don't think it really gets brought up because of Altuve and Correa and we appear to be set for a while. But just thinking about the pipeline, what we could add, and positions of strength for trades, etc. I'm also including CF and catcher in that.
Behind Correa we don't have much. Mier at Corpus and I can't even think of the A ball guys off the top of my head. Behind Altuve we have Fontana and Sclafani at Fresno, Kemp at Corpus who is a legitimate prospect, and again drawing a blank on A ball. Stassi appears to have taken a step back at catcher, maybe Heineman will turn into something, and Nottingham may be the breakout player at QC and the next legit prospect at the position. In center Phillips and Fisher are probably the top two but they're in Lancaster and QC. And will Fisher even stay in CF?

the Astros survey the landscape nearly a third of the way through the season, they’re probably acutely aware that they’ve been a little lucky so far — lucky to be 30-18 (their Pythagorean record, based on their run differential, is 27-21), and lucky to be in a division where no other team is above .500. So it might be tempting for the front office to think of 2015 as house money, to stay focused on building for 2016 and beyond, and to treat a playoff run this season as a pleasant fringe benefit.

Wow. I would have tried appel or Velasquez before feliz even with the struggles

Feliz is gonna be in the pen, Obie is the most likely guy to take Feldman's spot
