Figured this would be a good thread to reply in. Just getting started in the craft beer scene and looking for some recommendations. Live in Houston, and find myself waking down the isles in specs on smith and central market overwhelmed.

Don't really have an aversion to any specific beer. Open to all types

Turn me on to some solid beer.

Pale Ales, Amber Ales and belgian blondes are good starter beers. Karbach, a local houston brewer, makes a good pale ale called Weekend Warrior and it comes in cans. Oasis (austin) Slowride is my favorite pale ale right now....in cans too. St Arnolds makes an amber ale thats decent but if you want to step it up try Green Flash (san diego) Hop Head Red or Bear Republic (northern cali) Red Rocket Ale. For belgian blondes, a good introductory beer is Leffe Blonde. Try Real Ale (Blanco, tx) 4 Square. Its kind of hoppy (bitter) but light bodied.
