San Francisco's biggest problem to me is the techie gentrification of it. It's losing a lot of it's soul and becoming a playground for young, rich tech workers.

I'm not saying that that's the worst thing that could happen to San Francisco, but it's just different, and I don't romanticize the place like I used to.

This...and the smell of weed has little to do with the cities cleanliness or lack there of. The homeless population defecating in doorways might be a little more concerning.

That's not a problem IMO. My good friend bought a 1000 sq ft apartment there last month for $1,000,000 and before he even moved in his realtor came to him and said she had someone willing to give him $1,200,000 for it! He didn't take it because he loves the place but damn that is a crazy real estate market. When you have people with that much money taking over the city it is only going to make it a nicer place.
