I'm looking for a laptop with good parts that will last me a substantial amount of time throughout college, without having to do repairs or returning it. My top recommendation so far has been the apple macbook air. Is it truly the best or is that pure marketing talking?

price range- 800-900 to maybe 1000

Under a thousand, and you might as well just go to Best Buy and get the nicest laptop you can find.

If you take notes and want to commit to it, SP3/4 plus OneNote is a pretty great setup.

I'm on my third Toshiba and I have been impressed by all of them. I'd probably still have my second one if it didn't meet an untimely demise by my then 3 year old son. He saw a cord hanging off the table, and like most kids would have done- he pulled it. Laptop was not happy. But I've liked all of mine and will continue to buy them.

$429.99 at Best Buy

$508- 17.3" Screen

All Toshiba Laptops- Best Buy

Not necessarily recommending the brand (I've owned two with mixed results), but if you want a Lenovo, check their online outlet.

I have a 14" Asus...bought it October of 2010 and it's still going strong. When it finally gives I'll probably get a MacBook Air or a Dell XPS 13.
