They say it because it's true. Who has won the NBA championship the last forever?
Spurs, Heat, Heat, Mavs, Lakers, Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Heat, Spurs...
How many of those guys were led by young talent that had never been on the big stage before? Not saying there won't be an anomaly, just that it rarely happens.

Except history clearly dictates that stars dominate the championship count.
Tim Duncan, MJ, Olajawon, Shaq, Kobe, and Lebron have been responsible for nearly every championship of the past 25 years. That's 6 players for 25 years. If you don't have one of those players, odds are against your team.
