You don't think it's a little odd to write an article about how someone caught a fish that "would have been" a state record according to the fishing guide who makes a living off of people paying him to take them to catch big bull reds? I'm not even saying the guy is lying. It may very well measure exactly what they say. But I don't think you go around claiming you probably caught the state record with that thin of proof.

I don't have a lot of fish pics available to compare, but this is an old pic I had of an AJ I caught. This fish weighed right around 35-40 lbs (used an old scale, but was definitely smaller than a 54lb fish we weighed in at a rodeo). I just can't see how that redfish weighed 65 lbs. Now I will admit that the current record fish doesn't look that long and is a fat fat fish. Could be the case here, but that pic just doesn't look that way to me.

scaled it based off of his 3/4" ring finger width

fish is 47" long

Here's a huge one from yesterday with Travis from Reelin Good Charters in Dularge. No mention of a record here
