No ...in your scenario, Bowden would be the greatest coach who ever spent time as a head coach at WVU ... in addition to other places.

Sorry ... but Little Nicky will easily go down in history as a better coach than CLM ... both of whom coached at LSU.

But ... under your scenario, if all that stuff happens, I would agree that CLM would be LSU's greatest football coach.

overall...probably.

but the best football coach in LSU history will be Miles. It will be tough for a lot people on this board to deal with.

He needs 35 more victories to overtake Chollie Mac, which I would think he could get within the next 4 years.
This would mean he would have amassed 138 wins in 14 years, where it took McClendon 18 to win 137 (albeit with only a 10 game schedule.)
Miles has already surpassed Mac in # of SEC and National Championships...

Under your scenario ... I don't think most folks would have an issue with it ... IF your scenario happens.

The wins seems like a given.

Many/some (?) on here (myself included) have serious doubts about Miles winning another NC.

It took a near miracle for him to win one.

i wouldn't call it a miracle. There were 0 undefeated and only one 1 loss teams that year. its not a shock we were the highest ranked 2 loss team.

alot of people forget that we needed about 8 teams to lose in the final 2 weeks of the '03 season to get in.

unless you're undefeated...there's always a little luck involved.

Read what he posted and you copied again. Of course Bobby Bowden was the greatest coach to ever coach at WVU.

I don't know if WVU is thrilled about that though. Just shows the difference between WVU and FSU.

you're right.....luck plays a part in pretty much any NC....miles seems to have used up any remaining luck he had in recent years.
This year will be very telling and could go along way in cementing his legacy at LSU.

1. how much luck is one given at birth?
2. how do we determine when we're running out of this God given luck?
3. did you ever find that website?

You mean he's used up his "bad luck" right? Tennessee in '05, Auburn in '06,
Kentucky and Arkansas in '07, Perrilloux getting himself thrown off the team, Arkansas in '08, Ole Miss and Penn State in '09, Alabama in '08, '12, AND '14, Clemson in '12, Notre Dame in '14 ???

We are talking LSU history and not Bama/LSU history. Perhaps you can tell me what Nick did at LSU that Miles has not equaled or bettered.

Miles is already the most successful HC in LSU history.

If we are only talking coaching history AT LSU ONLY ... then I have already conceded that IF CLM does what the OP stated ... he will be the GOAT LSU football coach.

Sabam's 03 season was better than anything Miles has done, 2011 included.

Yes, because 7 of the 9 head-to-head meetings between Miles and Saban came down to the final seconds and were so "EASY" for Saban I guess ?????

Yep, those OT victories for Saban over Miles in '08 and '14, and those final minute wins for Saban over Miles in '09 and '12 were so "EASY" for Saban.

People say Miles is 'lucky'. What about fricking Saban ????????? Saban is MONUMENTALLY LUCKY to be 6-3 vs Miles, he could just as easily be 3-6 vs Miles.
Would Nicky THEN "easily go down" as a beetter coach ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
