With authentic-ish German/Polish/Czech sausages, kraut, pig knuckles, spoetzle, etc.? Not to mention German dunkels, weissbiers, lagers, and pilsners on tap?

Just like the new Kolache place, I believe a good German-style restaurant would print money once word got out.

Is it too much to ask?

(and, yes, I'm watching "Sausage Paradise"--on the TRAVEL Channel, not Bravo!... )

I think a big problem, especially trying to do something like that in the South, is that that kind of food and style of beers fricking sucks.

I was going to respond that the craft beer mavens would become indignant and protest the place, but you were too quick.

I mean I'm sure in Pennsylvania these types of places are wildly popular. But I just couldn't give less shits about Polish sausages and lagers.

I totally get what y'all are saying, but not everyone is a beer maven who wants to drink liquified hops as thick as oatmeal with an ABV of 10%. I often find the beer that beer snobs drink as equally shitty as they find BMC and the like.

Beer snobs are going to be miserable anywhere but their own homes, so I could give a shite about whether they like it or not.

I'm talking about the other 97% of the population.

I'm not talking about BMC. Hell I'd rather drink a Budweiser over some German beers I've had. This is not coming from a "beer snob" perspective, no matter how much you wish you write off that community's insights. I just think this concept is a regional thing that wouldn't find success in the south.

I'm a beer maven and a food snob, and I enjoyed the hell out of getting in my cups at Hofbräuhaus in Munich.

I've been to Oktoberfest in Germany as well. Awesome time. But Munich isn't the same as fricking Baton Rouge. You can't recreate that environment. Just comes off as kitschy and manufactured.

To be clear, I'm not arguing that someone should open one here. I was more defending against the general attack on the paradigm itself

You ever been to Radegast In Brooklyn? That place kills it. I have found that people love beer gardens in general

My sentiments exactly. It works at Epcot because tourists expect that kind of cheap manufactured fun. But if you expect Baton Rouge locals to frequent a place like that I think your hopes are set a little high. Bland food and session beers just won't work with this city's population.

Could you try a little harder with an over generalization please?

Chimes is the closest thing Baton Rouge has to a German beer hall.

Definitely. They could probably add a few German items to the menu without pissing anyone off.

I went to one of these kind of places in Cincinattie several years ago and had a damn good time. Really wasn't there to judge beer, just wanted to have a good time.

A biergarten has to make money on beer, and in Red Stick, one who expect it to be necessary (even more so).

Lots of food snobbery in da LA. Who´s going to eat pretzels and pig´s knuckles in grand quantities? Seriously.

Well, that's true.

If a good beer hall opened, it wouldn't have much on the menu.
German beer halls have a handful of things, all made fresh with no preservatives, and make them well.

There isn't much of market here for that.

The parking lot at Red Lobster strongly disagrees.

Seriously, have you seen the guts around this town? A roasted hunk of pork? Really?

One minute, half this board trashes BR for all of the chain restaurants and no originality, and the next minute they say this city is too "snobby" for international food.
