I would say replace Chaplin. Here is why. Recognizable implies actors who the most people would recognize. Chaplin was incredibly famous for his time. However, Schwarzenegger would be recognizable to more people than anyone on that list, other than Wayne. The rest of the list would be higher up than Chaplin too.

John Wayne is an excellent choice

i think the original list is pretty good, and john wayne is the #1 all time male movie "star", but i agree that at this point in time schwarzenneger and cruise have to be on the list. i'd definitely take cary grant off the list first. not sure if i would remove stewart, eastwood or chaplin next. chaplin is the most iconic and unique looking, stewart is arguably the most beloved actor of all time, and eastwood's fame has spanned 3 generations. in terms of recognizable, stewart is probably the least of the 3.
James Dean just misses the cut.
