MY outlook for 2015 (football)

ESPN just came out with another preseason poll and they put us at #16, which I think is about right.
For me, I think this team has it all with two key pieces being the difference from 7-6 and the play off/sec title.
1) QB play, I don't even need to get into it so I won't. If it's great, the offense could be really great. All the other pieces are there (big deep OL, several really pass catching options, stable of back/heisman candidate) just comes down to who's driving.
2) Kevin Steele. Our D has talent everywhere. Coach O will have our DL ready to go (this will be a strength, mark my words), our LBs are strong and seasoned, our secondary should be the best in the country. The unit coaches Raymond/Steele/O are all very good position coaches with lots to work with so I expect each unit to play at a high level.
BUT someone has to pull it all together and make the D play as one. I think KS can do it, I just don't know for sure he can do as good as job as Chavis did.
If those two spots (DC & QB) come together, BIG YEAR. If not, well, might be rough.
What say you rant? If you have to boil the outcome of the season down to 1,2 or 3 key pieces, who/what would it be?
My prediction: Both spots perform slightly above average and we're in the hunt for the west, 10-2 reg season record.

LSU finishes on top in the West. Book it.

How many times do we give it to LF?

With average QB play, this team will not lose more than one game. The defense will be better, the offense will be better, and special teams will be better. We were young last year, and just the extra year alone of experience will pay dividends.
More specifically, defense: the runs up the middle we struggled with early in 2014 are now plugged with our improved DT and MLB play! Our secondary is going to make it VERY tough to complete passes against. My only question here is a good pash rush from the DE spots, as well as who fills Kwon's playmaking at OLB.
Offensively, LF will lead a Hesiman campgain, DW will be a bull, and Dural/Dupre/Chark are uncoverable on deep balls as evidenced in the Spring game against our second team and walk ons.
We WILL win the SEC, (remember that other SEC West teams have to replace key spots) and be one of the final four teams!

two things need to happen for us to make the playoff.
#1 Fournette gets no fewer than 20 touches a game (no reason he should get fewer)
#2 we have 2003/2007 QB play, hell even sparks of 2011

Truth...but this team is still an enigma. From great potential to go all the way to the NC down to really stinking it up....like 8-5 or 7-6. Who knows.

Steele will do better with the talent at hand than Chavis would do with it this year. His approach to teaching defense as a whole and not separate position groups will unify the defense so that they play as a single entity. If Kevin Steele can do that, then Coach O can bring the defense to an entirely new level that we haven't seen since Dorsey was here.

In addition to those, the D is gonna have to step up. Specifically the front 7

I think 10-2 is very reasonable, lose off a tie breaker and go to great bowl. But honestly I just want to be competitive in every game. Last year hurt.

I agree with just about everything said here except " as evidenced by" the WR group getting open in the spring game. The WRs have potential to do this, but how many catches did they have against White, Paris, and KT? SEC teams have better DBs than those defending the far majority of the catches in the spring.
Also Coach O will generate a pass rush if the DEs step up. This is a wait and see for me because I haven't seen a lot of it from the returning players. Nothing against O and he will get good DEs soon...just not sold yet.

The QB situation needs to be decided before LSU heads to Starkville. If we're still splitting time between Jennings & Harris throughout the season. This team will lose 3-5 games.

You mean better pass rush, no prevent D, no 3rd and Chavis, and not losing the game in the last 2 minutes.

And no idiotic personnel decisions ie Welter over Beckwith, Mills over Robinson.

I think our d-line will be much improved with Coach O. His energy will light a fire under the arse of the linemen IMHO

We're in a situation that could mirror the 2010 campaign. Defensive front seven has a lot of talent. But it's unproven talent. Our secondary is ridiculously talented and it will just take time to mix/match the right pieces to be on the field at the same time.
Fournette & Williams are going to be very dangerous pieces. At this point, I think LSU is the 3rd best team in SECW [I believe Auburn will win the west].

I think this team does not need great QB play to win. (I will take it if we get it!) LF will get 25 touches a game, I really think LSU will push for him to win the Heisman and bring back some excitement. I think it is why he will still return kicks. LSU will not feed it to him 30+ times a game at RB very often, they will mix in DW, Guice, and Nick.
I think Coach Cam wants Dural and Chark out wide on opposite sides to threaten the secondary vertically. We will take some shots downfield on 9 routes and 50/50 jump balls, but really want the safeties back so we can run the ball. I think they try to use Dupre more in the slot now so that he does not get jammed as much outside.
Steele is the real deal and this defense will win us several games all by themselves.
Worst case I see is one SEC hiccup to go 12-1.

If we can get competent QB play, the offense will roll. Honestly I worry about our linebackers. Chavis did a horrible job in recent years recruiting linebackers. If there are injuries, we are in trouble.

Auburn is a secondary away, and Johnson isn't really that impressive if you turn off the talking heads and just watch him throw. Arkansas is a legitimate dark horse with experience at QB, but they lost a lot up front on defense. Bama is having as close to a down year as they'll ever have. Ole Miss and State will have spoiler ability.
I really like LSU's shot to win the west if the QBs can do anything on third down. Secondary and OL is gonna be sick nasty.

9-3, one big win and the obligatory two losses that can't be explained.
