Tell me about hearing aids

It has come to the time where I need to get a hearing aid for my right ear. The hearing level in my left ear is just about non existent because of head trauma I suffered when I was 20 years old. My gearing loss is to the point that I cannot pass the DOT physical to keep my CDL.
This morning I went to my ENT and was tested by his audiologist, and she (no pics) recommended an above the ear hearing aid made by Siemens that cost $1500, free 30 day trial.
Any body that wears hearing aids have any advice to offer?
And whenever I go to Sams, I always see their hearing aid department, are they legit in matching the correct hearing aid to your particular level of hearing loss?
Are their prices competative?
Edit: my insurance does not cover any hearing aids

From the family members that have seen them they are very good at what they do and very reasonably priced.

Never understood why insurance does not cover hearing aids.I am in the same boat as you.A lifetime of ear infections tumor removal in my right ear and loud mechanical rooms and my hearing is terrible.

Don't know much about them honestly, but curious why they think an over the ear one is better? Wouldn't you prefer something a little less conspicuous?

Am I fearing AIDS? Well, yeah, who isn't? But you have to live your life...

Never looked into the issue. After a google search, have you looked into this?
National Association of the Deaf: DOT Recognizes Deaf and Hard of Hearing Truck Drivers
ETA: Schneider get the debris from the tornado at the Dallas OC cleaned up yet?

Just go to Middleton and put your ear up to the nearest glory hole.

I bought the Sam's hearing aids on-line (GHI) and they run about $350 each. I think the refund period is 90 days and the warranty is 1 year. They work well. They have 4 volume control settings. They are almost invisible.
I figured for that price they were worth a try. I believe aids that cost thousands don't perform any better. Had these about 5 yrs.

Find an independent dealer that carries a wide variety of makes and models. If you go to Beltone, they'll sell you a Beltone. Any dealer will test your hearing for free, and would then know how severe your loss is. The BTE aids will always be more powerful than those that are all in the ear. Believe it or not, they can be bought on eBay for cheap, usually those selling are getting a newer aid and want to get rid of the old. Be aware that a lot of the current models are digital and need to be programmed so it's not always a matter of buying an aid and expecting it to be optimized right out of the box. You'll also need an ear mold for BTE models. No idea if the Sam's models are any good, but if you try one on and it works for you, great.

I'm not, I have all my gay lovers tested first, and I only use new heroin needles.

Inside the ear is better. Virtually undetectable. Sam's audiologist is as qualified as the one at your ENT

Old people take them off/out and lose them. That's why. Insurance would go bankrupt thanks to you aging baby boomers.
