I'm tired of all this watered down pop and rap "music". I want electric guitars, real drums, and singers that don't have to use auto tune.

I thought you like only just a couple of years ago. There's some fantastic music out there though. You just have to dig for it.

So your point is new bands can only rip off old bands? The op may have a point then.

Who is ripping off who? I assume you are saying Titus Andronicus is ripping someone off, but i certainly don't see where you are coming from.

Based on listening to the first 2 links in that thread, they are just a late 70s early 80s punk redo....more hardcore punk so maybe the early 80s time period. Certainly nothing new. Not saying they wouldnt be fun live.....But maybe they have some different stuff.

I'd probably listen to more than one song before making such a dismissive claim. They definitely are influenced by 80s hardcore/punk, but so what, that doesn't mean they are rip offs. I never claimed they reinvented the wheel, but they are a really ambitious and fun band. Listen to their album The Monitor. For better or worse, I don't think many 80s albums are that similar to it.

There is plenty of great rock music being made. Its just not as popular as it used to be

This year alone we have these albums already released:

Viet Cong's self titled debut
Courtney Barnett- Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit
Colleen Green- I Want to Grow Up
Toro y Moi- What For?

And Tame Impala and Unknown Mortal Orchestra releasing albums later this year

Last year we had

Mac Demarco- Salad Days
Real Estate- Atlas
Temples- Sun Structures
Allah-las- Worship the Sun
Glass Animals- ZABA

Not to mention other bands like Deerhunter and Melody's Echo Chamber that have put out quality rock music recently.

If you can't find good rock music you're either:
1. aren't looking
2. have shite taste

What a stupid line of thinking. You could argue that every single band that has ever existed is just a ripoff of some predecessor.

with spotify, youtube, bandcamp, last.fm and a plethora of other free ways to listen to music, you honestly have no excuse to make this ignorant thread.

there's THOUSANDS of good rock bands out there. not our fault that you're too lazy to look.

Seriously? All those bands are past their prime, and one of them (Alabama Shakes) was never good to begin with.

I like a handful of Black Keys songs a lot. But their overall body of work isn't something I get excited about.

Past their prime could be argued, but they aren't dead.

And, like every phish fan I've ever met, you predictably shite on another person's musical opinion without offering anything of your own.

For who?

QotSA peaked in 2002
RHCP peaked in 1991
Black Keys peaked in 2006
Alabama Shakes suck
