Something else that has crossed my mind regarding Tyrion being Targ...
Tyrion, having killed Tywin, is thought to be a kinslayer. I believe it is said that kinslayers are cursed. If he is Targ, he didn't kill "kin", so therefore not cursed. Meh. Too much running through my mind on a Monday.

Even Tywin suggests that he's unsure that Tyrion is his. In ASOS, he makes the comment that Tyrion has the right to bear the name of Lannister since Tywin can't prove that Tyrion isn't his son. Tyrion is also described as having blonde hair, but it isn't the traditional Lannister golden blonde. It's much paler. Then, there is his fascination with dragons when he was a young boy....
All of this.

I don't buy into Tyrion as a Targ for one bit.
You've got to look at all of this from Tywin's perspective. He hates the fact Tyrion could be his son at all.

This could be true. I remember something about a dragon must be born of blood. If that's the case, Dany, Jon, and Tyrion most definitely fit the description since all "killed" their mothers in childbirth.

Which is funny because other than his appearance he's just like his dad. Well, the cunningness anyway.

And there's also this quote from Genna to Jaime in the Riverlands:
quote:
Jaime, sweetling, I have known you since you were a babe at Joanna's breast. You smile like Gerion and fight like Tyg and there's some of Kevan in you, else you would not wear that cloak...but Tyrion is Tywin's son, not you. I said so once to your father's face, and he would not speak to me for half a year

Very compelling. Who, in your opinion, will be dragon riders?

Hmmm, maybe we can look to the show as guidance with this. Varys is very keen on getting Tyrion to Dany, what if his complimenting him on his ability to rule is just fluff to get him there and then declare him a Targ? Don't think I buy it...
Varys wants him there to train Dany's dragons so that they can bring them to Aegon, and then I suspect that Varys will have Dany killed as soon as he has the dragons secured. Tyrion is probably the most qualified person to train them next to a Maester who has a Valyrian Steel link.

I think it might be Jaime since they're brining him to Dorne. frick who knows. Is this crackpot 2.0?

Yeah if anything Jamie/Cersi are targ and Tyrion is Tywin's true and only kid which would be hilarious
I've thought about this before and still think this may be the case. I don't recall who says it nor the exact quote, but the statement is made that Tyrion is Tywen's only true son. I believe Jaimie says this to Tyrion. I am not able to research this currently unfortunately. Anyone remember the details of this statement?

Very good argument. I could counter by saying that in many ways, children become like their parents because of how they are raised...not because of DNA. I do admit, however, that Tyrion is mentally more like Tywin than the twins. There is no doubt about that. I'm not sold on the Tyrion is a Targaryen argument necessarily, but I definitely think he's the third dragon.

I'm not big into coming up with crackpots. I'd rather just read and let it all play out.
I would think there needs to be 3 riders obviously from the "dragon has three heads" comment, and I think 2 of them are Daenerys and Jon. The third? I really don't know.
I believe Tyrion is heading there to give Daenerys his knowledge of the dragons though.

Plus the Targs have a really long history of incest..Cersi certainly acts like the mad king
Which would make Jaime a kinslayer and cursed, see right hand as exhibit a. His dying sons purple face exhibit b. His daughters ear exhibit c.

Great thread...off topic, but great thread.
As for the Crackpot 2.0 comment, that other thread is way too long and all over the place to read. I fell behind about 70 pages in. I'm too far gone.

What happened to the links? I've seen it before and it had links to all the posts that had the actual theories, and now it's just a list of them

Ok, but if Jaime and Cersai are Targ, then that means their children are Targ, Joffrey, Tommen...
A Targ already sits on the throne, and it is Jaime's son, and Jaime should be the rightful heir anyways as the oldest male Targ. Jaime got passed over for his own kid. Kill Jaime and the circle is complete and the "correct" person sits on the Iron Throne as we speak.
The End.

But as a member of the king guard, doesn't he forfeit all land title and rights?

And I am in the Tyrion is Targeryan camp. The dragon does need it's third head!
Really, that's not all that important if it means sacrificing Tyrion's and Tywin's character as a whole to do it. Tyrion being the Mad King's son is not enticing or interesting. All it does is turn Tywin into the Evil Stepfather, gives Tywin motive for hating Tyrion, and lets Tyrion completely off for murdering his own father. That's not interesting. It makes the relationship between the two characters much simpler, and simultaneously makes less sense.
If Tywin even suspected that Tyrion was Aerys child of rape, he would have had a servant through him off a cliff face from Casterly Rock and resigned from being Hand much sooner. I also think he would have almost immediately joined Robert in Robert's Rebellion (although Jaime makes this one a bit more iffy than the other 2).
Tywin's hatred for Tyrion is interesting because Tyrion is a twisted form of Tywin. He shares all the same attributes as his son, from his calculating nature, to his shrewdness, to his intelligence, his gift for governing, to his shaky relationship with his own father, to their mutual love of whoring.
The only thing that really separates the two of them is how they were raised. If Tyrion was born in Tywin's body, he would have turned out much the same, and vice versa. Tywin became joyless because of his father, while Tyrion took laughter up as armor, which of course pisses Tywin off even more. This is what is interesting, in how a father treats his own son so horribly and has his own son's wife gang rapped in front of him only to have his son finish him off.
Now, let's take it from their POV's if they were to find out about Tyrion being Aerys son. For Tyrion, he'd laugh, tell his evil stepfather's memory to frick off, and then laugh again when he considers how Jaime will react to this bit of news. He will not give a frick if he's Aerys son, just so long as he's not Tywin's. As for Tywin, he'd feel validated for treating his son like complete shite and then command Ser Meryn to kill him in his sleep. I instead find it better that Tyrion killed him for being a cesspool of a father instead of just an evil man who tortured him.
