I've been following the results for friends and checked theirs as well ... Andrew Powell (injured in the accident last year) finished in more than 8 hours ... I sure hope that there were people to cheer this gentleman on and congratulate him at the finish. The widow (Kimberly) is still in the run portion and although the course officially closes at 8 hours, major kudos to her for doing this.

We watched Andrew cross the finish. He got a big cheer.
The 15k split time wasn't working for some so wife may have finished. There were about 5-10 still on the course when we drove out.

The online tracking was SLOW to get it posted. Glad that he got a cheer .. hope the wife did as well. Her estimated finish was 9:something not that it matters I just hope that she had what she needed towards the end of the course water/fuel wise.
For the record, I'd love to do one one day. BUT the swim would kill me .. unless I could like backstroke or something. lol I have issues with water on my face and bothering my contacts AND I can't goggles on my face so ....

They also spoke before the race. Got a huge cheer then too.
Mrs. Golfer did her first 70.3. Swimming is her worst part and she does backstroke primarily because of her shoulders. She said it wasn't terrible today. Two of the three laps were downwind.

Peer to the side every 100ish meters. And there's kayaks and boats out there yelling at you if your off track.

Well hot damn for Mrs. Golfer ... I'm too comfortable in my little running box (mixed with a little riding).

My family set up right next to their support crew at the finish line and we waited for a while, but we left right about 3:30 and didn't get to see either of them come in.
I wanted to, but our 5 yr old was ready to go after a 4:45 am wake up to come cheer daddy on.

Congrats 4444 ... I'm still nervous to ride my bike after the accidents that seem to keep happening here ... trainer works well!

quote:Doing a race last year, I noticed a chick passing me up real quick and she was doing the back stroke. I finally caught up to her on the bike and asked her if that was her doing the back stroke. She said yep b/c that was her stroke on her college team. She was fast. Pretty sure it was the fastest lady's swim time.
unless I could like backstroke or something

Dang I can barely do backstroke without veering off at a 5-10 degree angle in a freaking pool

Thanks! Had a really good day out there and races smart. The headwind in Haynes was just crazy...it was something you certainly had to plan for early on the bike ride.
Then, you had the sun and wind just beating you down for 6.5 miles out on the lakefront...turn around and you get the tailwind but then it got hotter because the headwind that you just lost at least cooled you down.
Ended up going 4:50 but have a real good feeling for where I'm at as I really dig into ironman training.

Yea. Wife said the last 6 miles on the bike was miserable. And the lakefront run with no shade...and they were out of the sponges by the time she got there.

Yeah, even coming back down chef I didn't think it was bad, but as soon as we turned off Hwy 11 it kicked up and was right in the face. Then we had a bit of a break coming down 510 but when we hit Haynes it dropped my avg about .5 mph
Congrats to Ms Golfer
