I just don't understand the logic that once a player has played in the NBA, they suddenly have all of this wisdom. I had coaches growing up who could run circles around tons of NBA players when it comes to discussing the game and evaluating play.

When Some non-objective ex-player (player =\= macro-knowledge) says something that directly contradicts the data and can't provide any of his own, then yes, plenty of people can analyze the state of the game better.
