I would have preferred something similar to the tactics used in Troy.

No way. How he went about that could not have been more perfect.

Doesnt Rollo become a duke, marry a french chick, and rule over parts of france for a while?

He marries THAT French chick and rules northern France as the Duke of Normandy. His decedents (see William) are the Normans who conquer Anglo-Saxon England.

It would seem so and that meshes will real history to some extent. All I'm saying is: if the Frankish King is expecting Rollo to betray his brother, Ragnar, again, he should rethink that plan. But it will be interesting to see how it plays out on the show. Mostly Ragnar wants land for his people to farm and it would seem that has been given to Rollo in the form of the future Normandy. Historically the show could easily continue to 1066 with the Conquest of England by the Norman Duke, William the Conqueror.

As an aside, I did not remember that the etymology of "Norman" basically derived from an old Franconian word meaning Nortmann or Northman: LINK

==========================================
The English name "Normans" comes from the French words Normans/Normanz, plural of Normant,[3] modern French normand, which is itself borrowed from Old Low Franconian Nortmann "Northman"[4] or directly from Old Norse Norðmaðr, Latinized as Nortmannus (recorded in Medieval Latin, 9th century) to mean "Norseman, Viking".[5]

History could really have struck gold with this show, assuming the rating are still strong. That time frame is largely untouched by modern tv shows and movies. Amazing considering how bad arse these warriors and battles were. Could start with Robert the Magnificent and finish with William the Conqueror. Much like they are starting with Ragnar and finishing with his sons.

I think going forward, they need to age Ragnar's sons and start getting more into their English invasions. Guy playing Bjorn is ok, but not a commanding actor. (His completely dead performance to walking around with slight limp a day later didn't help his case) I really didn't realize how much the show would miss Aethelstan. They need to progress the story a little faster IMO. I was thrown the last time they did it, but it led to a great season. Oh and less time with boring Catholic royalty and more time with psycho pagan Vikings.

The French may be boring, but how are the Wessex and Mercia royalty boring? Every time they show them, someone either dies, gets betrayed, sexed, ect. What more do you want from them?

Agree. This show has huge potential even after Ragnar dies. And yea, Bjorn definitely hasn't had a dynamic role so far and his love sick fawning over that slave girl sure didn't help his character. The writers definitely need to fortify his role as Ragnar delegates more authority to him.

I agree. He showed some promise in the battle commanding his troops up the ladders, but his "dying" acting looked like plain dead.

Ragnar playing dead is "borrowed" from a story about Harald Hardrada the last great Viking hero. Supposedly did this exact thing to capture a city.

Yes, you've got Charlegmagne's blood through his great grand-daughter marrying Rollo, on down through William the Conqueror.
Amazing, when you think about it.
And, like someone said, its such an untapped source of material on TV.

Pretty awesome series. Only complaint is that the action scene sometime feel... sluggish?
