It's really 50/50. They're supposed to stay in the right lane, but don't. So of course they're not going the speed of the cars in the left lane which causes a slow down. Then there's usually one impatient person in the slowdown that does some crazy maneuver to get around, and that's where the accident happens.
I've driven from BR to Lafayette at 80mph the whole way, and 72mph the whole way. It's 5min difference. impatient drivers and people on the phone are what causes the majority of accidents on I-10 there.

Is it just me, or are there more accidents on the basin bridge than there used to be? It seems like there is one on there every three or four days now.

I'll take following too closely for $1000, Alex.

R+L Carriers, not surprised. Those drivers are always blocking the left lane on that bridge. Almost every day.

Weren't they the ones that sideswiped a hazmat tanker or another box trailer a few months back on a weekend that caused the bridge to shut down?

It annoys me that cops are always waiting to bust you going 5 MPH over on the basin bridge but NEVER enforce the "no 18 wheelers in the left lane" rule. They need to stay put in the right lane. It would help so much.

I can understand them passing if at the speed limit because there are some truck drivers out there that will drive 45 - 50 on that bridge to boost their mpgs instead of 55, but the cops have a hard time busting the dump trucks doing 70+ because of the cb radio chatter.
BTW, the entire bridge is a cluster from that spot of the wreck. Westbound closed, eastbound backed up all the way to beaux bridge from rubberneckers.
