Car audio question

I don't know hardly anything about this but I have a 2013 Chevrolet work truck. The radio sucks and I cant even hook my phone up to it. I was told its cheaper to order from Amazon and get an aftermarket radio, amp and speaker and bring it somewhere to get it installed rather than buy the products they sell.
So, im looking for recommendations for a radio that has FM and I can plug my phone into it
Wouldn't mind having a little bump. maybe a tube under the back seat ( if they fit)

This stuff is actually really easy to do on your own. People are just hesitant because of the "unknown" factor. You take it apart, and put it back together. Pretty hard to screw up. Especially with all the guides you can find online. I suggest not bringing it to anyone to do.
When I bought my car, I bought a head unit from: https://www.sonicelectronix.com
This was years ago. But I got an eclipse $1000 in dash screen for 450. They had a "new model" just released and were trying to get rid of the older one.
Check the site out.
I also suggest getting one with a cable that connects to the bsck of the unit and can plug into your phone. The audio will be clearer.
ETA: you'll need the accompanying wire harness. There will be a specific one for the head unit that matches to your vehicle.

I can vouch for sonicelectronix.
May seem sketchy because of low prices but they are legit.
Headunits are cheap these days. You can get a decent bluetooth headunit for $200 now.

I almost always get my stuff from there. Their return policy is legit. If you don't like something, you can just send it back. Free shipping on everything I've ordered, and they'll price match anywhere. I have been buying from them since around 2000 when websites were barely websites
I got a Pioneer 5600 head unit for like $325 around Christmas. Has Bluetooth, USB, and 3.5mm for phone inputs.
OP, I'd start with a radio and go from there. If you want more, you can call them up and give them your budget and what type of music you listen to. They'll set you up
Eta: You can also get flush mount female 3.5mm and USB ports to install somewhere in your truck so you don't have cords hanging everywhere

Where you put the tapes in
Eta for actual help:
Call them tomorrow and tell them what you're looking for. They will put together a solid package for you
I'll help a little since I'm bored:
Pioneer 3600
Metra dash kit
Axxess harness
Then for speakers, you can get 4 Infinity Reference . You don't need an amp.
If you want a sub, I suggest a powered one since you're not trying to blow out Windows Infinity Basslink with wiring kit
Reason I suggest so much infinity stuff is it is good for the money. You're not gonna be winning any competitions, but it'll sound good overall. They will cut deals if you package stuff together and give discounts or free shite.
If you just want it to sound "okay" and not good, get a cheapo Pioneer or Sony set of speakers and a basic $150 radio. You could be set for $200-250 if you want.
Either way, have someone that knows what they're doing set up the equalizer for you

Pioneer with Usb and Aux( you plug your phone in)for $125 from Best Buy most have HD radio also.
Car stereos have gone way down in price. Not hard to install in most vehicles.
HEAD UNIT= RADIO

thanks for that website link.
I also didn't want to start a new thread, but I want a radio that is really just a full fledged Android OS. Any good ones??

Thanks for the help. That speaker and amp combo is what im looking for. Was looking at cheaper headunits ( im catching on). Whats the minimum watt I should get?
Posted on 4/7/15 at 10:33 pm to FelicianaTigerfan
For a head unit? I think they're pretty much all the same now, but try to match it to the speakers. Pioneer is usually the one I recommend because it works and is relatively easy to figure out. I have a highs amp that pushes 125x4 @ 4ohms because I have higher quality speakers, but IIRC the Pioneer radios do 50w which should match those speakers well. The reference series is made for un-amplified systems

All head units do 10 to 20watts rms.
Amazon is usually cheaper than sonic.
When getting a cheap pioneer headunit, don't get the fh-x700. I stuck one in my wife's 4x4 and it is awful.

I bought my stuff off of Crutchfield, they send you how to instructions on your vehicle. I ran into an issue, called them on a Saturday and they walked me through what I was doing wrong. I would at least give it a shot yourself. Worse thing is that you would have to end up paying someone anyway.

Here are some steps that explain how to do it. Not necessarily in this order, but I have hooked up all of my car stereos. It can be tedious and aggravating.
1.Get the radio kit that fits your car.
2.Get wiring Harness that adapts your factory wires to the new radio.( some require a Antenna adapter wire. Ex. Chevrolet. The wiring harness will just list the car model and year range.
3.Run a power wire from battery to amp
4.Run ground wire from amp to a part of the car frame inside of car. ( shorter the better)
5.Run RCA jacks from amp to back of radio. ( make sure if using subs its in the sub out put. If not subs plug into the other output. ( listed on back of radio or on wires)
6.Run a Small wire from blue wire of radio to the amp where it says Remote.(preferably blue so remember it during installation)
7.Match colors RED, BLACK, YELLOW, ORANGE, BLUE to the same colors on your wiring kit and unless you are hooking speakers up directly and not on an amp, you will need to hook those up ( colors will vary, EX, Gray with black stripe/ gray no stripe and so forth.)
8. Crank the radio up loud before pushing the radio in for completion, to make sure you have the speakers hooked up to the left or right side and so forth if you aren't using an amp.
9. Don't throw anything away that comes in the box with the radio. You may need the "keys" that come with it if a wire comes loose or you need to change or add something to your sound system. They have different kinds, but they are what releases the radio from the installation cage you install with your radio Kit.

I forgot to mention...get a double din sized one if it fits.
I used to think they were all hideous, but they have come a long way and look better installed.
The other option...tablet install.
