All corn snakes are rat snakes, but all rat snakes are not corn snakes, correct?

Yes, in Lousiana, they all belong to the genus Pantherophis with several species within.

I lifter a deer stand and it fell at my feet. I was movin like my arse was on fire and my head was catching. Ole boy with me whacked him for a copperhead

Almost positive that's not a copperhead, but I wouldn't have waited around either to find out

Was the snake in Louisiana? Corn snakes are usually more orange. At lease here in the Florida panhandle but they do vary in coloration. That could be a milk snake. Here is an excellent site showing copperheads vs harmless snakes. LINK It's a Virginia site but the pics are great. BIG chunky head and thick body of copperhead is key in identification.

Corn...as they grow they get more orange. Too bad...

There are different subspecies of corn snakes, and that's one version. Looks nothing like a copperhead. Pisses me off to see someone kill a beautiful, harmless snake like that.
