Most people who've never played just see a 6'8 guy & laugh at the thought. I understand, it's not their fault. They don't know.

Magic Johnson was a point guard at 6'9" which is closer to what Simmons actually is. Up close he does not look 6'10". Simmons will wind of spending a great deal of time handling the ball on the point in both the break and half-court sets, regardless of what his starting position is. He's not going to be drafted and told to learn a new position. Guy is super smooth with the ball in his hands.

I see a lot of people bringing up Magic in here, but just because both are tall and both can handle the ball does not mean that they will both play the same position in the nba. Magic was one of the greatest of all time. Simmons has well above average handles for his size, but that doesn't put him on Magics level. And the poster who said that Simmons has better handles than some NBA pgs right now has got to be kidding.

Feel the same way. I don't think he's a prototypical SF or PG, but I think (because of the way he plays as well as his skill set) he'd be more effective at the 1. Game wise, I think he's closer to magic than LBJ but I'm not saying he's as good as either. I think he'll mostly look to attack when he has a mismatch because it's the smart play. Other-wise he's looking for an open team mate. Most SF's don't do that. Off the top of my head I can think of 2 (LBJ, Iguodala) and both can & have played 1 for at least stretches of games throughout their career. The only thing Benny wouldn't be able to do at the 1 is guard the other teams 1. Therefore, I would have a smaller (6'1-6'4) 2 guard to match up with the other teams 1. I'd have a 3&D wing to guard the best scoring wing & let Benny guard the other wing. Give me a stretch 4 (Bosh, Davis, Love, R. Anderson, M. Morris, J. Parker) to spread the court & a big man that can score & rebound (Cousins, Gasol, Gasol, Howard).

Off the bench, I'd have One small ball handler (Augustin, N. Robinson, A. Brooks) & the rest big shooters & defenders (Gibson, S. Adams, T. Snell, S. Hawes, D. Cunningham, Q. Pondexter, J. Lamb, T. Allen, M. Thornton.) I might put a Napier or K.Marshall or someone at the end of the bench in case we needed one more ball handler.

Any coach will tell you there is nothing more intimidating and difficult to prepare for and defend against than a big (6-8 or bigger) point guard. Simmons is one of those guys, a once in a decade type talent who at his size can play the position.
