Caveat Emptor: Sha'on and the Girls With Success

NOLA-based band. They do weddings, etc. I've now heard two independent negative reports as to how they do business.
I must admit that from a presentation side they are spot-on.

I had them for my wedding, as did a good friend of mine...I will agree with you that the way they do business is a little shady (hard to get in touch with once you sign the contract, take a while to respond to emails, etc), and my friend had the same experience, but for both weddings they showed up and put on a hell of a performance. They are a tremendous wedding band. Just a little first-hand experience. Despite the shady-ness, I would recommend them.

She is a raging alcoholic and has some shady practices. I just went through the wedding band booking process and after hearing two separate stories about how she demanded, out of the blue, to be paid cash in advance and then walking out of a wedding an hour and a half before they were supposed to stop, I cut her from the list.

This within the last month.
The allegation I most recently heard was a payment of an additional $2,500 demanded on the day of the wedding or no show.
There are at least two sides to every story but.....

Got to love the Yelp age where people can go online and bash with no recourse or question.
give specifics on who she screwed over or what gigs she skipped out on.
i'm not saying it isn't true, but it's easy to say stuff behind an anonymous user name.
If I was having a wedding and booked her and she did a shitty job, I'd let everyone know as well, but I'd also give the details.

I didn't talk to them first-hand but someone (who is trustworthy to me) I've known for over a decade tells me this tale from within the last month. If it was the first time I'd heard that in conjunction with this band I'd not said anything. It's the second with eighteen months. And the same tactic, wait until it is too late to make alternative plans.
Speaking of Internet reviews, did you read the response, possibly from someone connected with the band to a negative comment alleging what I've heard twice now?

In both instances (as I was told) they allegedly insisted on cash for part of the "extra" payment. I also suggested the Stop Payment route both times.

We have performed over 700 receptions. If there are two unfavorable review, unfortunately we can't please everyone( although we try.) We have been performing for over 20 years and have played with some of the best performers in the world. Weddings is what we do. Don't believe everything you hear, the DEVIL IS BUSY.
