That guy is wearing a steel watch on a rubber strap and you think its brandwhoring because it costs a lot? To me, brandwhoring is all about making others realize you're rich. That watch won't do that unless you're in a room of investment bankers. Buying blindly for recognition is more of a Rolex phenomenon, and AP Offshores because those things are terrible.

Not at all, not calling him out in the least. It's an understated watch for Patek and very atypical of thier style. I was speaking in general saying it's a phenomenon that noticed on watch forums.
That isn't the type of watch to make the investment banker jealous, and it's OK because I'm sure that's wasn't his goal.
So all Rolexs are "terrible"?
