Before every exam I ever took in College, the professor would always ask "Are there any questions?"
I'd always ask "Can I use my textbook?" or sometimes "Can we work in groups?" Why? Because you never know.
The textbook thing worked several times. I kept all my notes in my books. The group thing worked once.
Had Paul Britt for Calc I and II. By the end of II, he started every test with "No Mr. Prez, you can't work in groups."
You never know what you'll get if you ask.

We did that too, it was always funny to see people's reactions when the prof would say "sure, use anything you want."
