My parents didn't spend near that much in my dress!

IIRC, I spent about $70 renting a tux, $10 on a corsage and $50 on dinner. My date got a dress from the woman who did dresses for Miss Alabama and paid about $200, which was on the high side in the mid-90s.

My wife, the high school teacher, has informed me that doesn't happen anymore.

Got to have a limo, dinner has to cost at least $100, and the girls have to have dresses that start at $500.

My daughter went to lots of dances in high school and never did any of that. Her most expensive dress was $200.

Yep. When I was teaching there were kids in the free/reduced lunch program who had a more recent iPhone than I had at the time and easily spent this much on prom.

Sounds like the same 20 years ago. Prom is cheap then.

We didn't have a prom in 1977 because they didn't want black boys dancing with white girls. We had a banquet in the high school cafeteria instead. Guys bought their date a corsage and wore suits. No limos.
