There is a very good geological basis for the Americas being considered two continents. This is not the case for "Eurasia."
The geological argument is weak, but the geographical argument for the division is much better. Europe and Asia are very dissimilar and relatively isolated by a mountain range.

Ural kidding, right?

Yeah, Rex - and that wouldn't piss me off so much, but they teach their kids that North and South America aren't separate continents, but somehow Europe and Asia ARE. The Urals aren't even impressive mountains.
But, whatever.
There are only 5 continents, baw.

I actually get that.

I'd guess that since the entire concept of "continents" was probably invented in Europe, they probably got to decide what was and wasn't one.

I've learned to deal with it. It doesn't bother me any more.

The basis is more historical than geographical. The Greeks split it up that way and so later Europeans followed suit. I'm sure the division made sense to the Greeks in the 6th Century BC -- approximately the time the Greco-Persian wars began.

I'll tell you what really chaps my arse. Iceland is pretty much green and Greenland is covered with ice. WTF is up with that?

This place would be much less entertaining without you around.

An LSU geography teacher taught me that the Ural Mountains were no bigger than the Appalachian Mountains and that the only reason Europe was considered a separate comment was because of racism. I don't know about that.
