Don't forget Spears and Hill were both around over the 300 mark in a 4-3 as well. It can work

Looks like 3-4 to me.

As I understand it, the issue really comes down to whether a player has the speed and quickness to play DE in a 4-3

I wouldn't be as concerned for the ends as much as I would for a nose guard

When teams switch over from 4-3 to 3-4 that first year is usually where they get ate up. Personnel not in place yet. Happen to Bama and Uga. Worries me a little because you got to have a disruptive guy that can take up 2 blockers consistently at the nose

It looks like 3-4 but I think Bain is standing up at LE. It's completely different from what we're used to.

Definitely over the center, but Hill and Jackson both would stand on occasions and could either rush the QB or drop into coverage.

But then again, I ain't no expert and this looks different to me as well.

Is that Bain standing?

I aint buying that. LSU has not played a 300 lb DE since I can remember... got to be a typo. I do expect both Bain and Gilmore to see more time at DT this season however. If this is correct this is a major philosophy change for LSU Defense.

We played Tyson Jackson with Pelini and at 290, that's pretty damn close.

We aren't switching go a 3-4. We may run some 3-4, but we aren't switching over.

I think that is Lewis Neal at the stand up but I could be wrong. Bain with his hand in the dirt?

It'll be a more multiple defense IMO. I don't think we're going to see some major change in defensive personnel under Steele. But we will see more pressure and more unique looks from our front seven.

I hope we do see a change from Chavis' defense! Never cared for it! It was solid because LSU athletes make any defense solid, but Chavis' bullshite was just a continuance of what Pelini was doing. I don't care for those style of defenses. They will give up yardage and scores. I want an attackin style defense like they had before Pelini. Let the athletes use their talents to go and make plays. Bring heat when it is required on passing plays and bring down the quarterback or force his arse into makin mistakes(Int's). LSU has let QB's sit in the pocket far too long in these passive style defenses by having DLinemen drop into pass coverage and all that bullshite!

Wasn't Bain about 300+ easy? Man were really going with some heavy fronts.

And yeah that pic is pretty prototypical 3-4. I think we're going to switch back and forth a lot. Especially since our d-line is so heavy and our "DEs" are all very 34 OLB looking already

Honestly, I support CL since he is a Tiger. But am I the only one who sees that he is pushed around a lot, that his arms lack evidence of weight room work (not saying he is not, but his arms look poorly defined, and not strong)? Him being entrenched as a starter is not good news in my opinion. I hope CLM is not forcing Coach O to play him due to him having been the starter with the most experience, because we have to have player with more skills.

True, but they were way above average athletically.

What is an "early lock"? Is that like a "definite possibility".

Correct about the changing fronts on "D". You play to down and distance.

Everyone says bama plays a 3-4. Check out any of their games. They play an even front more than an odd front.
