Now that makes a huge difference! He may not drop far at all.
I just read that Kevin White is dropping down draft boards and now he's behind Cooper and Parker.

So if White is there would you take him?

Tough one. I guess it just depends who is there. If Gregory, Beasley, Fowler, Ray, Scherff, Collins, Shelton, and Cooper are off the board, then I think you would have to seriously consider it.

Except the new NFLs drug policy has come out and the testing and discipline for a player testing positive for marijuana is different and more relaxed.
quote:
Marijuana discipline: The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended

The smokescreens are finally beginning. It's not officially draft season until the smokescreens start getting played out in the media.

yes, with the understanding he will require some development coming from a college spread. this is the reason I have cooled off on him, because they often don't translate well to the pros. given the time to develop, he could be a star.

Didn't read 6 pages but saw a mock that dropped today and It has R. Gregory dropping to us.
Mock Draft 3.0

As much as I would like to get White, I still think you go somewhere else at #13, OL or D, considering that this WR class has very nice depth.

only if the player you pass him up for is considered equal or greater value. you don't pass up elite for very good. that's why the teams that draft for need rather than BPA are always drafting at the top

Give me Cooper/Parker > White. I just don't see the combine infatuation with him.
Give me Gregory at early 20s if we trade up from 31 by sending a 3rd. The question marks around him regarding the drug/substance abuse is just making me shy a bit. I see a guy that can control himself, but having 1 foot in the door to a suspension already does not sound like a CSP pick.
He has the production though, he will be good if he gets his head on straight.
Jr:
66 tackles (40 solo), 17 TFL
10.5 Sacks
1 INT (TD)
1 PD
1 FF
Soph:
54 tackles (23 solo), 8.5 TFL
7.0 Sacks
1 INT
3 PD
1 FF
ALso, in that mock draft. Collins goes at 25 to Carolina? Jump frog them at 24 to grab him

Same feeling here. As much as I think White could explode in this offense, there will be talented players at positions of need available at #13. My biggest fear about passing on White though, is that he hits the league & has Julio Jones type impact for another team.

you fear that because what you suggest is a move only the bad teams make. never go need over value, especially in the first round. plus wr IS a position of need

If you watched him play, you would know why he has the buzz. I was lucky enough to view several West Virginia games this past season & White is big time. He's not just a guy who finished high in the underwear olympics. He made his presence felt on the games especially in the bigger games. The Mountaineers final record wasn't an indication on the effort of Kevin White. Dude is a boss.

The eyes of the fans, this is true but Payton seems to think highly of Brandon Coleman & Seantavius Jones. He stressed this just yesterday.

I agree with this but there is nothing wrong with going best player available at a position of need.

While I'm not doubting that Payton likes these guys, at the same time, he's the master of coach speak. I guess we will see draft time, or even Training Camp how much he likes them.

This is true. Sometimes he's blunt but other times he's bullshitting which makes it hard to get a reading on what he's thinking.

Agreed. I'm hoping Coleman can refine his game a little more and have an impact this season. You can't teach size, and with one big target out the door, it would be awesome for him to step up. Most places had him projected as a 3rd-5th pick last year.

Not necessarily.
At 13, there will be guys with equal(or more value) to White. Plus, wouldn't a position of need add value to a certain player? And don't forget about the depth at WR in this class. White may be an elite WR prospect, but will most likely go top 15. And there are very good WR prospects that we could get at #31, like Perriman or Strong, and guys we could get even later at great value, like Sammie Coates, Greene, Agholar, etc.
WR is probably the deepest position in th draft, so you can get a quality player at a great value later. Other positions aren't like that. I would much rather take 1 of the top OL / edge players at #13 and then grab a WR at #31 or #44 than take White at #13 and then try and get an OL or edge player at #31 or #44.
You gotta consider the depth and value at all positions and what you could get later in the draft.
