I hate that he loses ABs being 9th, but I love the thought of having a strong bat transitioning back to the top of the order. Not to mention righty to lefty. I've always thought 8th should be the weakest spot anyway. Regardless, this team is fricking good. I really hope this continues. I was not expecting THAT much offense against a decent staff like Tulane. Time to sweep Kentucky, dammit!!

I know I should know this but can someone explain OPS, BABIP, and GPA?

Thanks

OPS = Slugging % + On Base % (straight up)

GPA = ((On base % * 1.8) + slugging %) / 4 --- Basically OPS but more heavily weighted on OB%

BABIP is batting average on balls in play. Excludes HRs since they are not technically in play.

Awesome thanks for clearing it up. I've always heard OPS is one of the better stats for a hitter. True?

I just edited my brain fart above.

Yeah OPS has become a household stat over the last 15 years. I have grown a love for GPA because it leans more on On Base Percentage which is thought to have an 80% higher value on production than Slg.

yeah OPS just means

On base
Plus
Slugging

Anthing over .800 is good. Anything over 1 is MVP level (in MLB.)

Hope you didn't accidentally exclude Laird's HR in GPA seeing that it was in the park... Right?
