Straight shaft
Best option is a stihl or an echo, but not from the big box stores
Those might be out of your price range though
Personally, I have a troy bilt with interchangeable attachments and I'm happy with it after 2 seasons

What is the benefit of straight compared to curve?

Strait shaft.
Stihl if you're going into the lawn business. I have a Homelite I bought (on sale) at Home Depot 5 years ago and it's been a great little machine. I weed eat a lot so I'm pretty impressed with how well it's done.

an echo is an echo no matter where you buy them from per the Echo website. This is not true of all brands, but it is of Echo.
