Lol Self.
King of the early exit.
King of the early exit.

No. Izzo is a pro at underperforming during the regular season. Then he figures his shite out around the tournament, and his team is always way stronger than the seed indicates.
But he never really figured it out with last year's deep and loaded team. It just goes to show you that chemistry development is hard even for the best coaches.

You do know Kentucky isn't Cal's first job right? He's lost several times to lower seeds
At mid-majors. Common sense, how does it work?

How old are you?
Cal lost three times EACH to lower seeds at UMass and Memphis.
So, 6 times total. Plus now once at Kentucky.
Nice try.
There is no need to be upset.

Izzo has one more tourney win than self since self started at Kansas. That win came like an hour ago.

No Donovan.

Or Pitino. Who would take Self over Pitino?

You act like Calipari was at a disadvantage at UMass and Memphis. His 2008 Memphis team was the most talented in the country and he had Marcus Camby at UMass and that 1996 team was as good as any team he has ever had anywhere.

Kansas fans overrate their program to the extreme. There's no way Izzo should have more tourney wins in your eyes.
Posted on 3/22/15 at 2:18 pm to VADawg
Marcus Camby and 08 Memphis never officially existed though.

I just gave you a fact to consider. I didn't say anything else.
Self has had some poor tournament runs for sure but that much is clearly overrated when you consider that he's even with the guy that everyone calls the king of March.
If your goal is tournament wins, they are even. If your goal is regular season success, self dominates izzo. If your goal is to get a lower seed and then outperform it, izzo dominates self. What's your goal? How are you evaluating coaches?

He's up there for sure. State is always a factor in March whether the roster is good or just average. If he recruited as good as Coach K or Cal he'd be hard to beat

Not like either would be a bad pick.
I would take Self over Pitino, though.

Izzo's team are always well prepared. They run the best zone O in college basketball and their man stuff is pretty salty too. They are always very crisp on their defensive rotations as well.

As some of the posters have hit on, it depends on what you value as a fan.
Want regular season conference titles and a bunch of regular season wins? I think guys like Self, K (since 2005) and Sean Miller are your guys.
If you value the postseason significantly more than the regular season, I think you go in the direction of Izzo, Donovan and Calipari. Calipari's tournament record is very underrated. Memphis' loss to Missouri in 2009 was probably his worst tournament loss and that still came in the Sweet 16. Plus, Mizzou was pretty salty that year....arguably its best team ever.

Ranking the very best, there is no bad pick. But Pitino is a better coach.

He is the best at getting deep runs with decent teams
This. He does better with less. When he actually has a good team is when they underachieve

Well, I disagree.
No biggie.
