All these high scoring NCAA Tournament games have been so much fun to watch

I mean just look at some of these final scores
60-59, 57-56, 56-48, 60-59, 56-53, 57-50, 66-53, 64-51…and that's just a few from the first round.
Not for the feint of heart. High scores left and right.
And right now MSU is on pace to score almost 50! These have been some thrilling affairs. College basketball right now is such a great product. Makes the NBA look like pee wee sports in comparison.

The defense in this game has been extremely impressive to watch. If I were a high school coach Id make sure my team was watching this game

Part of sports, especially football and basketball is understanding the beauty of well played defense. Is this as exciting as a high-scoring game? Absolutely not. That being said, it's still very very impressive to me.

I argue that it's not necessarily "better defense" as it is a lot of the lesser talented teams have realized the way to make a run in the tournament is to slow the pace of the game to a crawl.

Why do people compare a college sport to the professional one?

What about comparing the product to what it was in the '80s and '90s? You're blind if you don't see how much the quality of college basketball has dropped off.

Yea this has been a defensive masterclass plus the way sparty rebounds makes me moist
For comparison the cinci/purdue game the other day was just bad basketball. This is two teams that know how to play defense..

I can safely say, if you're going to try to run with Kentucky you're probably asking for a loss. So I totally expect any of their games from here on out to be teams slowing them down into the half-court. And I'd probably say the same for a team like UNC as well after watching them against Arkansas yesterday. Teams have figured out if they want a shot at beating someone that has them beat in size and talent, it's to slow down the game and limit the offensive possessions.
The officiating doesn't do anybody any favors either when it comes to pace of game.
All that said, the worst possible example you could use to represent the whole bunch in scoring is Michigan State and Virginia. Neither has been known for a high powered offense and have very good defenses.

You have to be blind to not see that college kids play waaay better defense than pro players. More often than not pro players don't even leave their feet to try and block a shot or get a defensive rebound; at least not until the playoffs.

You couldn't have watched a Tony Bennett vs. Tom Izzo game and expected Golden State vs. Oklahoma City.

Eh I like defensive basketball as much as the next guy but both teams just went 4 minutes without hitting a field goal...

Good defense can be great, but they were playing with lids on the rims in the first half. It can be hard to watch if no one hits a field goal.
