My roommate just got a 8 month old Great Dane. I currently have a 5 month old black lab. I work a normal 9-5 job and an able to take care and tend to my pup as much as it is needed. My roommate works shift. Works 7 on and off 7. 12 hour shifts and switches from nights to days. Anyways he crates his dog between the time he leaves and gets homes which is usually 13-14 hours. I will let it out when I have the time. When my roommate is off work he is either sleeping or out doing things. Sometimes he will intentionally not feed it or give it water in the morning just so it won't piss or shite his crate. This is a 8 month old 70lb Great Dane that is growing constantly. It is getting more to the point of in humane than neglect. I am a dog lover and hate to see this. Is it crossing the line to tell him he needs to get rid of it? The guy is still in party phase of drinking and dope and can hardly take care of himself. How does the OT recommend me taking care of this situation? Without seeming like an a-hole.

Tell him to give it up. Take care of the dog yourself in the meantime. Dogs are a full time commitment, not something you want as a cool toy, as I can tell you already understand.

Just give me his dog. I'll spoil it rotten like I do my golden.

Poison your roommate's food with laxative, then crate him.

Recommend to your friend that he needs to give up the dog.
..that dog will be fricked up from the extended prison time he is serving as a puppy.

Welcome to adulthood. There are many tough decisions you wil have to make as an adult. When it comes to doing the right thing, you can't worry about being an A-hole. Besides, if you are the type of person you sound like you are (a good person), why do you care what that arse thinks of you?
I promise, you will not be friends with this guy in 5 years anyway--you are young and your life and friends will change many times in the coming years.
Always do the right thing. If he gets pissed at you, well, you just discovered that he may not be the type of person you want to be friends with anyhow.

Eat it. Meat will be more tender from being locked in a cage all day.
