-as we've seen many a time, a game that was wide open, end-to-end, suddenly slows down and becomes a halfcourt game. these guys once again showed that they have little to no clue what to do in these situations. very little movement, swinging the ball around the perimeter, no touches inside, and a possession that usually ends with a long jumper as the shot clock winds down. didn't even face zone and still couldn't break them down.

- the bench. where was bridgewater? epps? yes those guys don't necessarily bring much to the table at this point but are better options than malone who may as well be 5'9 than 7' given the fact that he just doesn't really give anything valuable right now. even though the game slowed down, it almost magnified the fatigue factor because the adrenaline went away as the big plays in the open floor started to dry up. guys feed off of those plays and off of one another as you saw in the first 20-25 minutes. no bench minutes and our main guys get fatigued. i promise you fatigue played a part in those FT misses near the end. yes LSU is a poor FT shooting team, but mickey was gassed and quarterman had given it his all for 30-something minutes.

- timeouts. its sad when you actually get all hyped when johnny takes a timeout with a minute to go in the first half to settle them down and talk things out. got to use them, as well, in accordance with the tv timeouts. if you're set on running with a 7 man rotation, great, but these guys are going to wear down as we saw once again.

such a devestating way to lose. and almost the same way they just lost to auburn. you just knew once they got that 62-48 down to single digits that it was just a matter of time before they started fouling because opponents know we tend to struggle from the line late in games when the fuel starts to run out.

the way nova plays fits into how we want the game to go, especially if they have an off night from the field. was looking forward to that matchup and its an evening game which would have been awesome. i hope the guys that do come back can get over this free throw stigma that will now be attached to them.

johnny isnt going to get much better. maybe he'll get his own tex winter or ron abernathy but im still in shock at how little an impact musselman had with this squad. we'll be good on paper once again next year, but game situations will more than likely dictate just how good we really are.

Ding ding ding - we have a winner. You are correct and this is why our coach deserves some of the blame.

The whole game I wondered is he going to spell his players and give them a break.

This point, I completely agree with. Your first point, I am not so sure. We would have had criticism of Jones for keeping an uptempo pace if NC State decided to hit a few threes.

To me the biggest thing that needs improving is our depth. So many of the issues will be solved just by having more than 6 guys that JJ feels comfortable using.

The main thing that comes to mind to me is that we didn't force feed the ball to Jarrell Martin somewhere inside the 3 pt line...preferably at the junction. He was unstoppable, and at worst, he was going to get to the rim and get fouled. He also looked like the only guy who wasn't shell shocked in the last 5 minutes.

It was CLEAR to me that Martin was the guy who needed to get the ball.

My biggest takeaway, frankly. It's like he's allergic to timeouts. Comes back to the common refrain that CJJ knows how to recruit but cannot coach for shite.

They extended their man D too far on the perimeter and went for some poor traps that led to long rotations and easy shots for nc state while they were trying to climb back in.

Idk if that was coached or the players going off the reservation but it was awful.

I assume Patterson cheating for steals was all him so I'm not including that here.

You make some salient points however before theirshooting going cold in the final 8 minutes they were 24 or 48 from the field and 12 of 16 at the line. So what should he have changed?

The shots just didn't go down at the end even a couple of close range shots. The FTs became mental.

A coach should not change what is working. Who could anticipate such a dry spell? They have won numerous games this season with essentially the same rotation and they were still able to muster enough to prevail.

Either the player performs or he does not in that situation, but even a subpar performance would have still usually netted another basket or two and a few made free throws. This was just one of those quirky things that sometimes happens in sports.
