no. this dumbassery deserves mockery and condemnation. jail time should be contemplated for all those involved in this retarded proposal. and i'm only half joking
Mocking the proposal is one thing. I'm all for that.
Acting like it has already been done and wanting to burn down the NFL offices for something that hasn't even been discussed by them yet, is stupid. And a product of a misleading thread title

I still like the Rugby extra point system - kick from the angle where the ball crosses the goal line on the TD

that team would then line up at the 32-yard line and try a 50-yard field goal.

I like any scoring change that fricks with the odds makers in Vegas without overly changing the game.
This rule does that.
This rule does that.

I don't like this idea much

If the NFL adopts an odd rule proposal from the Colts, a nine-point game will be a one-possession game.
The Colts will propose a new rule at next week’s league meeting that would allow teams to try for a “bonus point” after a successful two-point conversion. So if a team lines up for a two-point conversion attempt and succeeds, that team would then line up at the 32-yard line and try a 50-yard field goal. If the kick is good, the team would get one point, for a total of nine points on the possession: six on the touchdown, two on the conversion and one on the bonus kick.
The proposal is, for now, just to try the rule during the preseason. If it’s successful in the preseason, in the future it could be considered in the regular season. It’s not unusual for the league to try out new rules in the preseason; last year the league experimented with making extra points harder in preseason games.
Change for the sake of change is terrible.
Having said that, teams would go for 2 100% of the time with this rule in place.

You know how long it took to get the women I watch games with to understand the 1 pt try vs 2 pt try. Now you want to confuse them with this shite
Not the NFL's fault you hang out with morons.

Especially dome teams, seems like the EV would tell you to go for 2 virtually every time.

If true you would HAVE to try this every single time early in games. There are situations at the end of games where it may not make sense, and obviously situations where you would need it, but the odds would be WAY too good to pass up early.

Early in the games sure but if you have a 3 point lead with less than 2 minutes left and score a TD you are going to take the extra point to put you up 10 and lock in the win.
ETA: which is probably why they want to do it. Going for 2 and 50 yd FGs are more exciting than extra points.....by far.

I'd rather them change the fact that an 18 yard field goal counts the same as a 60 yard FG. I think 55 yarders should be worth 4 points.
This is an awful idea. Why punish a team for driving down the field but coming up a bit short? Teams shouldn't get more points for not going as far.
Plus what if someone has a 3rd and long but just outside of 55 yard FG range. What if they start wasting plays to go backwards to kick the longer FG? Just would be dumb
